What music do you listen to while working?

The right music can get you highly focused and productive.

For me, more repetitive music works best and I'm curious what other indie hackers are listening to get in the right state of mind.

I'll start: lately I've been loving sets by Adriatique and Hot Since 82, especially these two masterpieces:
Adriatique for Cercle
Hot Since 82 at a Pirate Ship in Ibiza

What about you?

i choose one song and it goes on repeat.

wow that would drive me crazy after a while 😁

He didn't say he wasn't crazy

      2. 1

extremely good for productivity, allows your brain to shut off a bit and can lead you to a state of extreme focus / flow

ok, I gotta try then ;)

      3. 1

it's amazing. i have some songs that have into the 10's of thousands of plays!

    2. 1

      Same for me.
I'm trying to condition myself with specific songs.

When you say "i choose one song". How often do you choose a song? Every 5 hours/day/month/year?

also known as any techno playlist :P

    1. I do the same thing that @8bit (works well).

    2. Preferably House music with steady pace, good beats, but definitely no vocals. No particular recommendations. :)

    1. 4

ooph! sometimes i enjoy the vocals... 🥰

    Adriatique ! 💯
I am a huge fan of Above and Beyond Group Therapy (#ABGT) and many of the Anjunabeats gigs. Currently I've got these in my regular coding playlist:
    Ben Böhmer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9kThoLdDc8
    Tinlicker - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F35xoJOxamg

western classical is my go-to, as research suggests that dopamine gets produced while listening to western classical music (Mozart, Beethoven etc.), so it makes you happy and keeps you more engaged in the job you are doing!
    Do give it a shot!

    1. 1

      interesting, I'll try it!

There's a range of "chill music" on YouTube I tend to rotate through as background music. I tend to avoid anything with lyrics while I'm working at my computer and need to hear my own thoughts.

While I'm doing garage work I tend to listen to rock and the usual classics.

  7. 1

I use binaural beats and soothing music like the ones on entrainlabs.com

Been listening to alot of Nujabes recently! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUMpg1ii4_A&t=265s

However, if you wanna find some solid music to listen to check out audiochamber.xyz!

I like to use one of the nature sound playlists (like rain, birds chirping etc.) on Spotify. I noticed that it gets me in the mood and is not distracting. For a change also listen to some Instrumental House or even jazz.

The cliché answer is the Social Network soundtrack. It is cliché because it works!

The more hidden answers, but that are also a pleasure to work on top of are:
'Deep House Relax' playlist on Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DX2TRYkJECvfC) and The Magician 'Magic Tapes' on Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/themagician).

Right now I'm on a di.fm classic vocal trance kick like a stereotypical coder.

  12. 1

dub techno, half volume, code away.

  13. 1

I listen to lo-fi music mostly when I'm working. It keeps me highly focused and calm.

For work, I listen to movie or video game soundtracks. Sometimes classical music. Can't listen to words, too distracting.

Currently listening to the God of War soundtrack.

+1 for brain.fm! although I prefer to use it for reading rather than working
