What music do you listen to while working?
by
David Delahunty
Looking for some new music to listen to while I'm working.
Please share what you listen to below.
It's rarely music; mostly soundscapes from https://mynoise.net/noiseMachines.php
I find lyrics and complex rhythms/melodies/harmony quite distracting.
Hey David,
It's curious, I have been months trying to make a Indie Hackers track list including a bit of everything.
I will come back with some music.
Any special genre?
Hey Michael, personally I like to listen to piano playlists of Pixar or Disney soundtracks. Helps really tap into my creative side. An artist I love is Pogo, check him out on YouTube.
Hey Daivd!,
Yes, Pogo sounds great.
You may like oh wonder maybe.

You are correct I do like them thanks for sharing :)

Disney piano https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DiMoehAeOU try not to sing along to 'A whole new world' 😂
I always use https://soundescape.io while working myself (disclaimer: I am the creator of soundescape, but it really helps me staying focused).
I want to second all the people who mentioned video game soundtracks. Video game music is designed to be engaging without getting in the way. It’s exactly what you want when working! For a starter, put the Hollow Knight, Bastion, Portal 2, Crypt of the Necrodancer, FTL, and Black Mesa soundtracks in a playlist, loop the playlist, and delete any tracks you don’t like.
For a bonus, make a separate “boss battle” playlist for when you need to get something done. I have a playlist with a few boss battle songs, and when I need to really code with intensity, I’ll pick one and loop it for hours. It works pretty well if you don’t overuse it.

Anything without lyrics
I listen to Gramatik for the most part. You can download his music for free in his website.

It depends a bit, if I have to focus I like listening to game soundtracks like Skyrim or WoW. If I'm tired and have to still get some stuff done I usually put on some rock concert on youtube, that usually wakes me up ;)
Always one song on repeat. For hours. Rarely any words. Today this is it...

It's a full album and goes for 0:59. So you can smash out one hour of deep work, without lyrics to distract you.
I like listening to movie and video game soundtracks. Currently listening to the soundtrack to Tenet.
I bought a subscription on Brain.fm a couple years ago. It was a game changer! I still use it on daily basis.
Another great thing to listen to are binaural walks by Nomadic Ambience - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOa0zQBRs_M .
I don't listen to music frequently, but when I do (and while working) I usually listen to classical/non-distracting music.
