I think realistic validation is where a lot of trading strategies fall apart. It's easy to optimize for a backtest; it's much harder to build something that survives changing market conditions. Focusing on robustness instead of just returns feels like the right direction.
Exactly this. Returns are the easy number to chase, robustness across changing conditions is the thing that actually keeps you alive - and it's much harder to fake. We built the whole product around exactly that gap: test under the conditions you'll really trade in, and get told plainly when there's no durable edge instead of a fitted curve.
That's the part I found most interesting too.
I don't think the bigger strategic decision is how to measure robustness.
It's the decision your product is quietly making every time it tells someone they do—or don't—have a durable edge.
