What problems are you facing as a tech solo founder?
Hey IH,
Just out of curiosity, What problems does a Solo Tech Founder face when running a company?
As i can imagine, Having to deal with business side of things can be a bit daunting.
If you have anything to add please let me know.
I struggle the most with the things that I do not yet know, like marketing or content creating. I always sucked at writing rich articles and I think this is a good opportunity for improvement in the areas that I did not think I could get better.
Finding motivation.
The need to make a lot of decisions on many different aspects
Marketing for sure, or just generally learning about 'business'. I always wanted to be a tech founder, because of my strong experience in web programming and wanting to own my own business. But working for another company doing my job as a software engineer, I'm not exercising many skills for business. And those skills are critical for running a company.
Are you using any tool for marketing?
Or would love to use if any to overcome your problem?
I think a lot of it is just knowing the basics. I have no marketing knowledge at all which is why just learning the bare essentials seems like quite a challenging task but it is essential.

Audit and bookkeeping as well?
Not really, all depends on where you are incorporated
I always think to big, when i plan to build something i want it to be perfect and thats mosetly with difficult features that take a long time to build. Thats my biggest problem that i am thinking too much.
I have found that as a mainly tech founder, the problems are more on the side of not being able to effectively do sales & marketing.
Because when you're a developer, you mostly focused on building the thing and do it in the best and most sustainable way possible.
But in reality "if you build it, they won't come".
There are different types of so many tasks including product developing, online marketing, customer service. It's hard to maintain tasks and hire right persons when a startup is started or straggled to be establish.

You mean 3rd party APIs?
Depending on the chosen path. For me, when the team grew it was embracing I'm doing more management then coding these days.
Wednesday last week I managed to spend 4 hours (sic!) on coding which I consider a huge success 😶
When working solo the most difficult thing was... making right choices. There were no one to validate.
Haha, Coding is ❤️. That’s the negative side of working solo that can’t validate your work but gives you freedom as well.
How do you manage everything by yourself like Marketing, Product, Engineering etc.?
Nowadays, I don't manage everything on my own, it's impossible at a scale. While being solo it's a good idea to outsource some stuff, accounting is the simplest.
I’m trying to understand the pain points of the solo founder to help them with a saas product, would be great if you we can connect sometime to understand from your point of view or if you can share some of it here.🙂
Finding, hiring and managing people. So much so that we just hired a coach to help with this 🤞
That’s really sounds like a hectic thing, Just out of curiosity - What type of management did you need for your team and How did you tackle this?
Having to wear every hat and not second guessing everything because you can't validate it with someone else.
