What products do you use/buy and why do you use them?

I tend to just look for ideas for what to build, but today I asked myself what I actually use myself, what I pay for. I would love to hear your answers.

Here's what I found for work-related products. Most are actually free.

  • Roam for notes and project management (personal projects). paid.
  • Apple notes for quick jotting down ideas. free.
  • Dropbox paper and Obsidian sometimes for longer form writing.
  • Brave browser. free
  • Gmail and Hey.com (not sure Hey is adding that much value for me, might go back to just Gmail). Free and $99/year.
  • Google calendar. free.
  • Outlook for work email and calendar
  • Whimisical for flowcharts. Mapping out systems. free.
  • Sublime for development
  • Render for hosting
  • Rails for app (guess not a product, but I use it a lot)
  • Tailwind for css
  • monday for work projects (shudder..)
  • full microsoft stack for work (teams, word, excel...)

What do I consume?

  • books. Anything with interesting ideas.
  • newsletters. Type notboring, Seth Godin, DHH, Jason Fried, Tim Ferriss.
  • twitter.
  • youtube. Learning about anything.

Other "special" purchases

  • skiing-related products
  • gym membership
  • Special foods: good wine, cheese and olive oils.

So there are not that many special products I think, and most things are free. Which is a bit annoying if you want to build something for people like yourself 😂.

I would love to hear: What products do you use/buy and why do you use them?
Anything special you love or hate? Something you spend "too much money" on?
