What routine tasks have you automated?

We all know about tons of automation tools around, including marketing automation, "AI bots," Zapier, IFTTT, etc. But what automation workflows do you use that saved you a lot of time dramatically?

It would be great if you can share some non-obvious solutions!

We get a daily Indie Hackers metrics report in our Slack channel at 4pm. It even compares metrics to the same day 4 weeks ago. Without it we'd be spending considerably more time looking at charts and graphs from various sources.

is it better to read a number heavy one-pager / report than to look at dashboards? Interested to know how that report is being generated.

I keep track of recurring questions I get via the support email, and update the "Docs" section on the site to address them.

You could think of it as a form of low-tech "automation" - in some cases it helps the users solve their problem on their own, without contacting support.

added several of my businesses to reviewstap.com to send review requests to our new customers automatically.

Replaced my restaurants $30 per month paid POS with a $50 lifetime script that performs better, I can easily develop and immediately automates a daily pain point.

Improved helpdesk articles and product guides in our intercom setup to answer more questions without being awake.

Admin, if we get an email that contain ‘invoice’ or ‘receipt’ and contains a PDF, automatically save the PDF in a folder in drive so our accountant reviews it at the end of month.

    • Intercom emails to engage with new users
    • 1-click deployments to prod
    • Monitoring email deliveries (we had a huge spam issue at some point)
    • reminders for goals

Let's keep this one going...Someone always has a great idea. I have a typeform submission sent to trello as a "new inquiry" card. Separately, an invoiceninja.com invoice is partially populated which I then finish and send out with custom comments. This is the year I do more with these and AWS serverless.

Automatic welcome emails after people sign up. Automatic AWS/Firebase notifications if something goes wrong. Slack notifications when people convert.
