If you had to pick just ONE number to check daily in your business…
What would it be?
Revenue?
Profit?
Cash in bank?
Customer count?
Conversion rate?
I’ve realized most people track everything…
but don’t actually focus on anything.
Curious what others prioritize ..
For most early-stage founders: net daily active revenue-generating actions. Not revenue (lags), not signups (vanity). What did you actually do today that has a nonzero probability of producing a dollar?
Once you're post-product-market fit: net revenue retention. It tells you in one number whether your existing customers are growing, staying, or shrinking — and it compounds in either direction faster than acquisition metrics ever will.
Revenue is a lagging indicator and cash in the bank is just a survival timer. If I had to pick one number, it would be Active Conversations.
Tracking how many real humans you actually engaged with today is the only leading indicator that proves you aren't just hiding in your IDE or stuck in a build loop. It forces you to confront market reality before the lagging numbers start to drop.
Between the technical performance of your product and your outreach efforts, which category do you find yourself over-tracking?
Active conversations is a powerful one that’s basically measuring demand in real time.
I like how it forces you out of building mode into actual market feedback.
For me, I’ve noticed the blind spot isn’t just talking to users, but connecting those conversations back to money. A lot of founders have conversations happening… but can’t trace which ones actually convert into revenue or repeat customers.
So I’d say I probably overtrack the product side; features, performance, dashboards and undertrack the full path from conversation to transaction to retention.
Bridging the gap between "good feedback" and "closed deals" is exactly why I am building Bunzee.ai to ground roadmaps in real market demand rather than just technical performance. Your focus on the product-to-revenue path is something we are trying to solve with data-driven validation, and I would love to get your take on our approach. What is the one feature you regret building simply because it lacked that initial conversation-to-cash logic?
That’s a real problem space that gap between interesting feedback and actual revenue is where a lot of time gets burned.
One thing I’ve learned the hard way,,,features built from loud feedback often feel right… but don’t always translate into paying behavior.
If I had to pick one I regret, it’s over investing in UI/UX improvements early on. Users liked them, engagement went up, but it didn’t move revenue the way I expected. It looked like progress… but it wasn’t the lever.
The biggest shift for me has been asking: would someone pay for this problem to disappear today?... not just ‘is this useful?’
At the end of the day, we put in the work, the agony, and the countless hours because we want to see our products succeed and generate a return. I’m spending my days building trust with real users through their feedback because I want Bunzee.ai to be the AI Agent that truly honors that investment. it’s the only real path to building a better product.
100% agree ,,trust is the real currency.
That feedback loop is everything. It’s the difference between building features and building something people actually rely on.
