What’s your best discovery lesson so far?

How are you finding the people who actually need what you’re building?

I’m curious what has worked better than expected—cold outreach, communities, SEO, partnerships, or something else. Share what you’re building and one launch or discovery lesson you’d pass on to another indie hacker.

The most useful thing I learned is that channels split into two kinds and only one of them works early. There are channels where you announce something and hope the right person happens to be looking, and channels where somebody already asked a question and you answer it. The second kind has timing built into it, which is the part you cannot manufacture, and it works from day one with no audience at all. Cold outreach and launches are the first kind and they need volume or an existing list before they pay. The unglamorous version is answering the same question in public until the answer gets found or remembered.

What has worked best for me is direct conversations and warm introductions into sectors where trust and verification really matter. I’m building Global Security Job for security-critical environments, and the strongest signals haven’t been likes or compliments — they’ve been people introducing me to decision-makers, giving detailed feedback, and discussing pilot testing. My biggest lesson: real interest shows up in behavior, not words.
