What should I ask my beta testers?

Today I acquired my tenth board game journal beta tester!

During recruitment I asked players for feedback if they sign up.

Now that I'm drafting my email I don't know what to ask them.

Are there any good resources for how to get good feedback from beta testers?

What would you ask them?

Some general questions we asked for our app:

    • Casual intro about the user's background
    • what are some pain points you have faced while <context of your problem>
    • would you think yourself using the app over long time
    • How likely would you recommend this to your friends and family?
    • Would you feel you miss something you if you can't use this in future?
    • Any essential features you feel this <app> should include?
      Bonus:
    1. What are some crazy features you would like to propose for this <app>?
    2. What cool features, which you find useful in other related places or irl, would like to see in this app?

Thanks for letting me peek into your brain a tad! This is super helpful.

I mean, what do you wanna know? What doubts do you have about the game? Do they enjoy it? What's missing? What can be made better? Does it match what they expected, what does, what doesn't? Would they share it with friends, why yes or why no? What other games do they play?

Treat players as curious humans or friends of yourself.

I really like the question of if they would share it with friends. Thanks for the tips!

just ask them what you want to know, in plain english.

the mom test is a great book for questions!
