What should I be focused on when I am not coding my product?

Hey IH. I am so committed to the success of my project and do code for hours upon hours. I don't think I should be allocating all my time to coding though.

What I have done is in between coding sessions reach out to people on social media and have set up a few user interviews. This has been great and I will continue to do that.

Marketing and sales are new territories for me. I believe I should be spending some time writing blog posts and building a following but a little lost where to start. I want to be effective and structured with my day and not waste time when I am not coding.

I am asking you guys here to see what do you focus on doing outside of coding to gain momentum for your product? Are there any podcasts or courses I should be looking into to further educate myself?

My product is https://storycreatorapp.com/ a simple video editor for social.

Hm I would say, build up your social presence

Some examples what you can do

    Write a Blog

You can do that quite well next to the coding. I would start a personal blog, so you are also free to write about your pitfalls.

Whether this is hosted by yourself or Medium or another blog platform, you have to decide.
And then, write about your product:

    • Why did you make the product?
    • How does your product make life easier for others?
    • How to use your product
    • Show live examples

Social Stuff like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, IH, YouTube ...

In the beginning you might want to concentrate on one channel next to your blog. Btw, use your Product for that. It's perfect for you. Two fly with one flap. You present your product and advertise yourself.

But get in touch with your target group. The way you do it, is a good one.

    Use creative ideas

There are other things you can do. Look at Markting Examples, you can get well inspired there.

When you are finished with your product, there are also some links on my Startup Promotion List that might interest you.

I hope I could give you some new ideas what you could do next. :-)

    1. Research
    • reiterating a bit of @volkandkaya stated and talk with customers to get feedback, check current market trends and try to be predictive of where you want to take your product. I would also continue expanding your knowledge base on a technical level with new frameworks, etc.
    1. Marketing
    • Market, market, market, and more market research, documentation and analysis. You'll thank yourself in the long run.

    Great video I just watched

For the first few customers I would focus on things that don't scale aka no need for a blog.

I would spend time where your target audience is and share useful content and help them. That is much more likely to get you customers.
