What skills should I improve?

Hello indie hackers!

I have a question for you: I have an idea for an app (mobile and web), and I want to develop it. I have great skills in project and product management, as well as UX/UI design, and I understand a bit about marketing. However, my technical skills stop at HTML/CSS and JS a bit 😁
What else should I learn in order to create an app with analytics and other features?

Thank you for your help!

rather that doing everything by yourself, learn the art of asking help from others! i know this sound lame but hear me out.
you dont really have to do everything. not every person can learn every skill. and by asking the community for the help, you may make new connections for life!
just go ahead and ask someone to partner up with you!

      Hey!
Have absolutely no problem with asking for help :)
In any case, even if I will ask for a help, I should know the basics, I think

    Hey!

As a developer I think you need to first focus on a unique platform, the good part of the web is that you don't need to post your app into the stores, that takes time and money.

Let's say you want to create something for the web, you can use Node.js, so you will use JavaScript on frontend and backend together some frameworks/libraries to help you on this.

For frontend: Next.js, shadcn UI, zod, react hook form, and others.
For backend: Node.js, express, zod, stripe SDK, supabase, resend, and others.

With these techs above (and others if you need) you can create a backend with an API, and database and connect everything to frontend.

For sure it's a summary, in the practice you'll need to discover more stuff, but use some AI (like Cursor) to help you on this journey, for sure you'll get some code done. For an MVP I think this is a good path.

So you need to find a fronend backend stuck that you like and that it's fast (to develop and run) and then you need to find how to deploy it to production with scalability in mind

Great perspective, appreciate you on your first step towards skills , i'll always recommend you to build an asset also d'nt spoil your skill as a service so do like website assets etc.

What a brave question! What have you worked on so far?

      Hey, thank you!

Back in uni I worked with HTML, CSS and JS a bit, we had to learn basics of web-cite building.
After I learned a bit of React, but already forget everything 😂

Hey Elizaveta, congrats on taking the first steps toward building your app! Since you’ve got a strong foundation in project management, UX/UI, and some JS, I’d recommend focusing on learning a bit more about backend development and databases. Understanding how to handle user data, authentication, and APIs will be crucial for adding features like analytics. You might also want to explore frameworks like React (for front-end) or Next.js (for full-stack) to enhance your JS skills.

Additionally, gaining some familiarity with cloud services (like AWS or Firebase) can help you deploy your app and scale it as needed. Lastly, consider diving into version control with Git—collaborating with developers becomes a lot smoother when you’re comfortable with it.

Best of luck with your app, and feel free to ask more questions as you go!
