What started breaking when your team grew from 40 to 70 people?

We’re currently at around 40 people and planning to grow toward 70.

At this size, I’m starting to feel that some of the things that worked when we were smaller won’t scale much further.

Until now, a lot of things could still be handled relatively manually — checking who has access to what, managing laptops and company assets, onboarding/offboarding, software accounts, security policies, etc.

But once you get past 50–70 people, I assume relying on founders or managers to keep track of everything becomes increasingly unrealistic.

For founders who have gone through this stage:

What started breaking first when you grew from ~40 to ~0 employees?

And what systems did you introduce at that point?

I’m particularly interested in things like:

  • Laptop/device management
  • Company asset inventory
  • Software and account access management
  • Security policies and endpoint protection
  • Employee onboarding/offboarding
  • Remote device wipe / access revocation
  • Anything you install on employee PCs as a standard setup

I’m less interested in monitoring employee activity and more interested in making sure company devices, data, accounts, and assets are properly managed.

Would also love to know what you introduced too early and regretted, or what you wish you had implemented before reaching 60 people.
