What techniques do you use for stress reduction and mental health?

I'm building a mental health app called Mind Sanctuary and I'm working on building a collection of stress-reduction activities like deep breathing, guided imagery, meditation, etc. Currently, I just have a type of breathing exercise called boxed breathing and I want to know what might you guys suggest or find helpful.

20 Minutes a Day! Mandatory quiet meditation time. Easy to do and really keeps me calm throughout the day :)

Try for at least 30 days first...

it's amazing because before reading the text I would have suggested square breathing because among all the things I tried, it was the most effective even during very difficult moments.

Anyway, I think you could make your users go through a process of becoming aware of their thoughts, a preparation for life and its less beautiful moments.

All with gentleness and love, don't put it on the level of personal and motivational growth.

it will come by itself anyway.

I agree, the user experience should feel guided and gentle. Thank you!

I'm the annoying one when it comes to this topic.
We shouldn't focus on stress reduction but rather on working on ourselves in a way that things don't cause us stress.
Stress reduction is a good mitigation and it makes us feel good very fast and that's why we forget to work on the root cause: our mind.
A good mind doesn't get stressed as much hence no need for stress reduction.

I mostly agree. Building psychological resilience is one of the most important skills but stress exists on a physical level. Even Navy SEALS do breathing exercises, as it's shown to reduce cortisol levels, improve mood, and improve attention. https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2017.00874/full

I started using a meditation app on Oculus, I found it easier to relax faster. It is really the only thing I use it for.

Well, I really like taking walks and reading classical literature. So, when I'm taking a break from working on BotMeNot, I'm usually taking a 5-10 minute walk outside.

    I'n my case: do Marketing!

Sry, I have to say, that marketing for me means go playing basketball and getting in contact with oder hoopers.

Absolutely! I'm a very technical person so I'm just now realizing how crucial marketing is and even doing as simple of things as playing basketball with people.

We recently got a pet hamster and I have found myself focusing on his care as a good mindfulness process. Nothing like playing hunt the poo in a sand tray to distract from other more stressful things in life.

On the flip side I've already turned the family pet into a new project: https://hamsterlife.co.uk as a distraction while he isn't awake.
