What time do you send emails to subscribers?
by
Welly Mulia
Curious to know what time you send emails.
I sent my weekly newsletter every Friday at 9 am New York Time. (topic: Influencer marketing news) This gave me enough time during the week to curate the news of the week (4 days of news) and I set my time to work on it to be Thursday night, ever single week for 3 years.
It worked for me as the creator and theoretically the best time to get it into the hands of readers before the end of the week.
Once I started a paid version, I sent the paid version on Thursday 9am and the free on Friday 9am. so I then was curating on Wednesday night.
Every single week for 3 years is brilliant consistency, Andrew. Keep it up! What was in the paid version that the free one doesn't include?
I would sometimes do a deep dive. Mostly it was just getting the newsletter earlier than everyone else.
I'll add that I will also sometimes not send in the morning and go for a noon-time post.
What were the results?
Still some good open rates. My readers tend to take 1-2 days actually to get around to opening my emails. Typically, my open rates are anywhere from 30-40%. Some readers actually batch read every week or two. I think as long as the email shows up that day people will likely open it at some point.
Thanks for sharing. That's some good open rates.
The real answer is... drumroll it depends! 😏
Know your target audience and make some smart guesses (or discover it by asking) on how that audience is most likely to both open AND engage with whatever content you've shared with them. 👍
Nice! And that's also the answer I give when people ask that question. I still want to know what time folks send out emails though, hence this post.
😎 Ok so my more generic answer to your question is.
Biz --> After lunch, Wednesday or Thursday.
Consumers --> whenever you think they'll be most engaged on their phone.
