What to expect in the startup world over the next 18 months

Interesting forecast of the startup space. Possibly the most important for indie hackers is this:

Recession (if it happens) likely to hit startups selling to other startups first

Also, there is a lot of opportunity:

A number of great companies will be built in this period

A number of great companies will be built in this period

I truly believe that necessity is the mother of invention. Having to cut down on the abundance of opportunities startups were blessed with in the past years may lead to even more efficient usage of resources and greater innovation.

If there will be less money flowing to unprofitable "startups", that means that bootstrapped, profitable founders will be able to utilize their money more effectively:

    • Ad costs will go down because less unprofitable startups will have the funds to compete (almost 50 percent of startup investment funds go to FB/Google Ads).

    • Bootstrapped, profitable founders will get more funding offers. Maybe more VCs will frequent the IH 'products' category :)

      Great points!

    I don't know, I think B2C generally gets hit first, not B2B.

An insurance app firstly is a great idea, since there is a huge demand for fintech solutions in the current market scenario. Coming to your question. You can create an insurance app for your company by contacting a reputed financial software development company. They will develop a full fledged solution which can lead to potential profits for your business.

The SaaS industry for one should be just fine. Remember the "SaaSpocalypse" of 2016? The year started off great and then the nose dive happened and everyone panicked. But the industry bounced right back and over the next 5 years grew more than ever before. It makes sense that the covid boom is over (where everyone relied so much on tech). And now we're in for a bit of hangover. But I feel like it'll be less extreme than people fear.

There will be a recession, I'm counting on that.

If it's anything like the 2008 recession, IHers should be thinking about some SaaS tools for foreclosures, debt collection, repossessions, etc., etc.

I hope there will be some great companies born from the ashes, though I'm not optimistic that any can thrive for too long with the number of monopolies that are thriving in the U.S.

I'm curious if a recession would actually move forward stalled legislation around campaign finance and/or monopoly regulations? It typically takes a lot of pain to make anything move forward in America these days.

Yeah, I doubt legislation would be affected much. They'd probably start helping the monopolies even more to boost the economy.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Seems like a good time to diversify income and maybe even customers/markets.
