So surprising Tribe.so is never brought up. No affiliation but seems really full featured and fair priced.
We've been using Discourse since a few months now and we were interested to switch to Circle. But the leap is not big enough, Circle (though cheaper and integration with Memberstack) is missing a few key-features for our community:
Out of curiosity for our own community efforts; what kind of automations have you fixed with Zapier currently?
Data entry from Webflow forms (signup and events' registration), Typeform (selection process and unsubscribe form), Chargebee (subscription activation and cancellation).

RSVP, events, polls and other requirements can also be met, but you have to integrate with other softwares, polls can be embedded with an embed code from poll software for example.
I feel like Zapier is needed here instead of doing it in-house, if companies were to focus on adding many of these features they'd lose solid development on their actual product. This way those who don't care about these features don't get it, they get a minimal UX with what they need and those who want extras get to play with a whole set of integrations.

Group chat can be solved as Circle integrates with Discord as well. A live group chat widget is is there if I'm correct.

I'm using Circle to build my community Local SEO Community
I chose it over Slack, Discord, or FB groups because I wanted everything in the community indexed for SEO, so people can find it via Google search.
I looked at Mighty and Tribe, but decided Circle seemed like a better fit for me.
Love Local SEO Community... from the past few days it lacks some engagement. It's a great community otherwise.
Yeah, trying to kick the engagement up a few notches 😊

I'm currently evaluating community platforms for building Coulf. So far in my research Circle.so seems like the best solution and meets the requirements one would need to start community. So that's topping my list, chat-based communities are not great for a community imo. It may be great for diff use cases but it's hard to keep up for me.
Quite surprised to see Forem being used by other members, I thought it was not ready for production. Hope they didn't confuse forum to Forem ;)
What are Forem and Playgroup?
