What tools do you use to build your landing page?

Hey all,

looking for some inspiration: What tools do you use to build great-looking landing pages?

As of now, I've mainly built my landing pages with Carrd or WordPress, and never really cared too much about the design of them.

Seeing all the great landing pages out there, I'd love to know which tools to use to make mine look better! :D

Happy to hear what y'all are working with.

When I first started, I hand-crafted my landing pages, using Bootstrap for styles.

Later, I hired a designer to create a landing page mock-up, and I hand translated the design into HTML/CSS.

Now I use Leadpages. It's faster for me to put together the pages using their WYSIWYG tool. And, when I AB tested against my previous landers, Leadpages came out on top (though, that probably has a lot more to do with the content than the particular service/technology used!)

Even if you're a developer comfortable with rolling a page from scratch, I really suggest using a drag-and-drop tool with pre-made landing page templates (I happen to use Leadpages, but I think there are a bunch of competitors with similar offerings). It's just so much faster.

Thanks for sharing. Yea I'm also not going back to actually hand-crafting my landing pages. As you said, it just takes so much time.

I'm just looking for some inspiration as to what other tools are out there. I'll definitely check out Leadpages, thanks for sharing!

Hey Matthias, in my experience, it really doesn't matter which tool you use.

You can use Webflow, WordPress, Typedream, Super, Wix or Chimpify etc. to build super beautiful Websites. The thing that makes Websites beautiful aren't any website-builder tools.

In the end, it's the content mixed with a bit of consistency in design.

    • Get good Illustrations from https://icons8.com/ or https://itg.digital/
    • Get some good photos and not some random Stock shit
    • Be consistent with fonts, colors, spacing and your graphical elements throughout your design
    • Don't mix up a thousand of different styles in your design

Don't waste too much time searching for the perfect tool. There isn't one.

    A bunch of different things:

For more professional business-like: I use the https://elements.envato.com/ to get an initial starting point. I do pay but I find the code here is worth it. I usually stick to anything templated with BootStrap. A lot of the code here is well written in my book.

For personal websites or for little projects: https://threejs.org/ I actually use a lot of threejs to make cool things and make my personal projects kind of hit a little harder.

For design and inspiration I always usually go back to https://codepen.io/. I can always find the code, and something cool or little components here and there with accommodating codes and libraries.

I've seen some great websites with Carrd and Webflow.

Personally I just use HTML/CSS and a sprinkle of JS for my landing pages. But, I wouldn't say that they are particularly great design-wise.

Ultimately, I wouldn't say that the tool matters all that much. Your design skills are what make a good website look good. So, I suggest designing first in Figma or similar before writing any code. And also perhaps looking at Dribble to get inspiration.

    1. 1

Yea I get your point that tools don't matter that much. Just looking for some inspiration and wanting to hear how other people build their pages.

I should definitely work more with Figma before actually building something. I usually jump in head first, but then end up wondering what I'm actually doing. :D I think conceptualizing a page before building it would definitely spare me some headache.

      1. 2

Really depends what you're doing. I think Figma for most products is procrastination.

When coding you can use Tailwind to prototype just as fast as Figma.

      2. 1

Totally! Dribbble is a great place for inspiration.

Once I started designing first, my pages actually started looking decent so I highly highly recommend it!

I am working on www.reyaltee.com, a simple, free landing page / website builder with a SaaS marketplace to add features on your free website. SaaS add-ons like CMS, collaboration, inventory, etc. are as low as $35/app/user/year. We are currently beta testing.

just made my landing page last Wednesday and used Typedream, it was really nice and their support is responsive as well. Here is my landing page for reference on how it looks.

Since my web applications are built on VueJs with Quasar framework, I became pretty fluent with it, so I also use it for my web sites.
form-data.com and joyform.io are both built on it.
Then I use Cloudflare to host it. You can do it for free with them although I pay $5/month because I also use their services for my backend.

You can save hours and it also supports blogs, eCommerce.
Moreover, I am also providing social media tools.

Kazi is a member of the WBE Space and he has built a tool to build landing pages called https://mixio.net/

Wix is a really good choice. It's pretty powerful & easy to use, and it has an app to get real-time insight into metrics or visitors. Acceptable price and some nice templates to start with too.
You can take a look at our product here, built by Wix.

    Hi @MatthiasGabriel! I can definitely recommend you bowwe.com 😉 (co-founder here)

Do you care about conversions? Yes/No?

Most builders and people only focus on how the website looks, while the technical aspects (i.e., good quality code, servers, etc.) go offside. The ability to instantly improve a landing page and the lack of restrictions on editing and changing it are no less important, in my opinion. Among other things, they affect the conversion of the site.

That's what we've done to not limit you in this area, of course not leaving aside the design issue. We have multiple professional templates and limitless customization over page elements.

What do you think about that?

I can highly recommend BOWWE. Maybe you want to ask more? If so, contact me on Twitter @karolAndruszkow

Hey, another recommendation (especially amazing if you don't know how to code) is freakishly easy combination of Notion + Popsy. You write the content and basic idea in Notion, then turn it into a professional website with Popsy. It's super simple and still brings you amazing results. In Popsy Editor you can customize everything without code and add some pretty cool features (for example custom themes, buttons, navigation bar, galleries, etc.) on top of your Notion page.

Here's a short video of workflow that will give you a basic idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dgaIJoGolo

This looks awesome! How's the SEO?

Hey, thanks. Everything you need for a functional website is there, including SEO settings. Hope this helps!

I've been using GeneratePress plus GenerateBlocks to build my landing page.

It's super flexible and if you already have WordPress with a hosting plan, there are no extra costs unless you sign up for the Pro version.

I've been working on a free open source website builder called Bootstrapsite on weekends. You can see a demo of it here:

    Demo video

It's not completely ready yet but I've been using it to build my own sites for some time. Being OSS it's completely free in every regard including free hosting on custom domains.

But since it's not 100% ready I haven't released it yet. If anyone is interested in trying it out please reply to me (or email me) and I'll send you a username / password.

Keep me updated once you launch.

The tools won't get you a great looking landing page. You can build landing pages with webflow, elementor, WordPress, they can all look top notch or complete garbage. Maybe with lead pages you will get a nice looking template but nothing custom. You will need to get a feel for good design and exercise to actually make something stand out and wow the customer.

We use Figma and Adobe XD for UI/UX design. We make illustrations with Adobe Illustrator. We've been building our landing page with 100% code actually with React.js.

  18. 1

I love making things from scratch. I use React, NextJS, and TailwindCSS.

Yea I've been working with Elementor a bit. But tbh, I'm no WordPress fan, so I went for other options like Carrd :D
