What Travian (game) taught me about coding / doing business half-ass?

If you put 50% effort, you WON'T get 50% of the result, you will get NOTHING (or very little).

Why?

This is a devastating attack I did with half of my army few hours ago because I underestimated the opponent.

In a business context, underestimating an opponent could be:

  1. implementing only happy path in code
  2. committing a little change to Github without testing

bad attack

And this is simulated result I would achieve, if I would fully focus on the task, and not leave half of my army doing something else (stealing resources from inactive players):

good attack

Key learnings:

  1. Identify the ONE most important task and focus
  2. Over-prepare

Did you have a similar experience?
