What was the one traction channel that made you profitable?

Was it organic or inorganic? How did you find it? Do you work with multiple traction channels?

I have built 2 SaaS products, Micro SaaS Ideas Newsletter with 25K subscribers and Closed community of builders and also created Zero To Founder

Here are a few channels that worked:

    • Product Hunt
    • Betalist
    • Reddit
    • IndieHackers
    • My Twitter (not huge followers though)

Some I haven't tried but might work:

    • Web Ads/Social Media Ads
    • Newsletter Ads
    • Newsletter Cross promotion
    • Closed communities

Thanks. How did you promote it on Reddit? By Ads? I read that they don't really like when they promote in posts their product...

For Reddit - Never did Ads. Mostly adding value with comments and sometimes good full length posts.

In 2021 my main startup https://dvnc.tech/ a game studio turned digital branding firm with a productized service had -$100,000 in profit (yes, negative one hundred thousand dollars).

In 2022 we were running out of investor-based runway and acquiring new investors was proving difficult so we had to pivot to customer-led traction (specifically our programming and marketing clients).

We were already implementing a LinkedIn cold outreach strategy for investors so we shifted this over to angel investors who were also business owners (so that if they turned us down for investment we could ask for a partnership).

By the end of 2022 LinkedIn cold connection request to follow up messaging to Zoom meeting pipeline led to us growing our client-based revenue to $120,000 (alongside better money management practices this led to us doing slightly better than break even [above $0] in income for 2022).

Since finding core clients on LinkedIn we've also had a good amount of referrals which has led to steady customer growth.

If we manage the processes and growth correctly we believe we can continue with customer-led traction going forward so we're not dependent on investors for operating.

    In summary:

The channel that helped the most was found organically by focusing on a channel where we thought our audience would be and talking to people until we knew how to consistently get people into meetings. It also really helped that we knew how to use this channel from the investor search.

Our 2nd best channel kind of created itself and now we're trying to formalize it more going forward.
