As indie makers, we’re constantly experimenting with ways to build trust, grow an audience, and drive real engagement.
Over the past few months, we’ve been diving deep into video marketing not just as consumers, but as creators trying to make it work without big teams or budgets.
Here are 3 things we’ve learned the hard way:
Overthinking Kills Consistency
Waiting for the “perfect” script, lighting, or edit? You’ll post once a month (if at all). The people winning with video posts raw, fast, and often. Authenticity > polish.
Long Videos Don’t Perform Unless You’re Already Famous
We tried 10-minute tutorials, product walkthroughs, and behind-the-scenes videos. Results? Meh. But 45–90 second clips with tight messaging? They consistently pull views and clicks.
Talking Head > Fancy Animation
We thought animated explainers would win. Turns out, real people talking to real people builds more trust. Especially when the founder is on camera.
We’re still figuring it out. But video has started doing things that blogs and static posts just couldn’t. It’s helping us connect faster and deeper.
