While optimising time to market or to get the first set of beta users we do have to give up on bits of our vision or drop off certain features. But there are certain things you will believe too important to trade-off.
For instance I would never compromise on user research, for every feature I try to ship, I would try to conduct interviews and usability tests.
Or in order to grow I will not base the revenue model on showcasing personalised ads to the user.
What is the one aspect of the process or a value you will never give up on?
This might sound counter-productive, but UI/UX.
And the reason is kind of justified too. Many people drop off within a few seconds if your site doesn't look professional, even if it has the answer to their query. Simply because the next result on google looks better - and has a clear CTA, they're gonna stay.
Sounds very simple to ignore, past are the days when Airbnb would work with a shitty landing page. Not today, especially in SaaS there are too many options for someone to forcefully stay on one site!
@shubhamkushwah I agree. As a designer I also place a high value on good UI/UX that can make or break a product even in early days.
Also the CTA copy - super important. The landing page for the product I am working on - thursday.social - had slightly confusing copy at the bottom section. Which I only realised after asking for feedback on IH. So user feedback is also super imp for me to avoid blind spots.
Customer support. Even if it takes half my day, this is usually my priority. Helped me to get a deep understanding of my customers too.
Oh yes. I often choose between two similar services based on how good their customer service is.
How do you find out which one has the best customer support?
Good question!
We'd never compromise on our application's security or our user's privacy, but we're a company that removes people's personal information from the internet so that probably makes sense.
Absolutely! That makes total sense for other products as well. Customers are increasingly looking for built in privacy first products. been hearing that during user research sessions.
