What works on Indie Hackers 👀

This is a report I did last year when I started to be more active on Indie Hackers to understand what type of content is more valuable. For early-stage startup founders, this might help you know if IH is the right community for you.

You can find all the posts here - https://www.indiehackers.com/top/all-time

As you might already know, the content is moderated by admins, so it's not a direct correlation between the number of upvotes or comments with the actual ranking, which is excellent. Nevertheless, this process often surfaces great-quality content in hours that otherwise would have taken days or weeks to reach the majority of the community.

TL;DR:
🎉 posting about huge milestones is promoted most often
🤗 empathy (sharing personal challenges) is getting the most upvotes
🚀 marketing/growth-related tactics are getting the most engagement
😎 (indirect) self-promotion is also a great way to get feedback/comments

You can access the Airtable dashboard from this link.

Indie Hackers community analysis

Although knowing this won't get all your posts to the 1st page, at least you know what type of content resonates with this community. 😁
