What would make you give more to charity / your church / place of worship?
I have an idea to “scratch my own itch”. It’s not entirely novel, but I have found a lot of the charities I would like to support financially do not have a way to collect payments online in a quick and simple way.
I’m wondering if other people have a similar issue, so throwing it out there:
- Do you give to charity/church/social causes etc online?
- What would make the process easier better?
- What would make you give more?
- What would make you give less?
My ultimate goal is to enable good causes to raise more money by creating a product that makes the end to end process seamless.

You can likely inspire people to donate more by ensuring that people are donating to a cause they feel ownership for.
I would say reporting / transparency.
Year after year we see scandals. Money lost, wasted, etc
Here in France one great known scandal was the ARC (non profit for research against cancer). After decades of fundraising the director was convicted with embezzlement, and apparently after investigation only 27% of the money was actually used for research.
I never donated but I can't trust any non profit.
What would be very good is complete reporting and transparency on how the money was used, where and when. I can easily picture this:
Photos of the project, testimonies, etc, graphs with the expenses linked to the project (transportation, administrative fees, construction workers, school furniture, whatever, etc)
We all know that charity is not just 100% of the money from our pocket to the pocket of people needing it. It would be too easy. But being transparent about it could greatly help I think, and also help relate to the project and not just to the tax refund one get after donating.
That’s a great idea. I like the idea of transparency. It’s something I have also considered in the past but then I got out off by how much potential admin would be required to collate and maintain it. Would need to incentivise the charities to update and maintain that... or see if there’s a way to source it directly from the government records which I assume are made public
Yeah sure it would require a huge amount of work, but I can clearly see the incentive IF the platform (let's say you build a platform for this) is the best way or most efficient way to raise money.
Think about it like kickstarter.
On Kickstarter creators are required to explain the project and update frequently on the progress. With this transparency they succeeded at being the most efficient way of raising funds for a project.
Still easier to say :)

Interesting, I have been considering this, but I’ve seen gamification done in ways that are too obvious/annoyin or simply ineffective.
Need to do some more exploring on this!
I think adding gamification is a really good idea! Maybe this book can help you out I haven't read it yet but heard good things about it: Actionable Gamification: Beyond Points, Badges, and Leaderboards by Yu-kai Chou
