What would you do with this?

Hi there,

For far more weeks that I'd like to admit, I've been working on http://gamentropy.com

It's a website that shows a list of videogames gameplay videos running at the same time as you scroll down. The list is completely random and the idea behind it is to get exposed to new games that otherwise you would never check out.

I just finished first version last week, and I've been the last few days trying to decide if it's worth trying to monetize it or if I should just kill it.

I had a couple of ideas to monetize it, being the main one charging a monthly subscription to indie developers that would like to add their games to my site.

But I guess I should probably first try to check if the site would have any traction, so I was planning to publish a post in /r/gaming. But I'm not sure if it would be worth it to add a form to the site to get some emails of interested people...

So, what do you think? Should I kill it or should I keep working on it?

If you're going to take the time to post it, you should definitely try to gather email addresses. It's possible that you'll need to define other success criteria, though. You'll want to figure out how to track engagement, since people may not want to fill out forms, but if they actually check out a game, that's strong validation that people would be interested if you put it in front of them. Can you modify it to have clickable links underneath the games, and track the clicks on those?

I agree with your instinct, which is that supply-side monetization is likely the best approach. You could also consider advertising (selling the top row) as an alternative to a subscription.

Thanks a lot for your feedback! I think I'm gonna finish the signup page for indie developers, which I kind of had finished, and I'll start engaging in social networks so I can start sharing my site. If I see it has any traction, I'll start pinging indie developers .

Thanks for the idea of using the top row for advertising. I think it's great and it could work too. I'll give it a try if the subscription model doesnt' work.

      Thanks!
