What writing tips have you found most helpful?

I see writing as a unique thing - most people can write, but not as well as they think or hope they can. Writing well can be a really effective way to build an audience, raising awareness of your project, or grow your business.

A couple of good tips I've picked up over the past 10 years of writing online are:

  • Write as you speak. This helps you sound more conversational and human.
  • Be consistent. Even if you aren't as strong a writer as you'd like to be. Consistency will (eventually) bring improvement.

I'd love to know what you've found works for you. Share your best writing tips below!

There are different types of writing depending on context and I don't write a lot but writing as speaking for me is not good as it's not focused or balanced...

    Generally:

    • Find the terms your audience uses and use them
    • Identify with the crowd early
    • On many contexts building the background story level by level might be important.
    • Write outlines, basically working in reverse than if you would summerise a big text

Outlines are a must for me too. It's easy to ramble or lose focus without one.
