I just launched a landing page to pre-launch my new product (and validate the idea or not).
The CTA is straightforward: an email sign-up form to join the waiting list.
The current Conversion Rate is 21,33%.
I have pre-launched dozens of landing pages in the past years, and here is my decision framework:
CR < 10%: drop the idea.
CR > 10% but < 20%: improve the landing page to see if you can reach 20%+.
CR > 20%: You're onto something. It's time to start the actual work :)
Now, it's time to talk: What's a reasonable conversion rate for this kind of landing page, according to you? When do you consider an idea is worth it?
I'd love to know more about your experience, so I can adjust my decision framework.
Also do you need make sure that your results are statistically significant, i.e. 3 signups from 10 visits are not the same as 3,000 signups from 10,000 visitors?
Hi Julian,
Your decision framework for conversion rates seems practical and provides a good starting point for assessing the potential of a new product idea. However, it's important to note that conversion rates can vary greatly depending on various factors, such as the industry, target audience, product type, and marketing strategies.
A reasonable conversion rate for a pre-launch landing page with an email sign-up form can range from 15% to 30%. However, this may not be a one-size-fits-all benchmark, as different industries and products may have different expectations and standards.
Here are some factors to consider when evaluating the success of a landing page and determining if an idea is worth pursuing:
Industry benchmarks: Research industry-specific conversion rate benchmarks to understand what a good conversion rate is for your particular niche.
Target audience: The conversion rate may vary based on the target audience you're trying to reach. A highly targeted audience may yield a higher conversion rate compared to a broader audience.
Quality of traffic: The source and quality of your traffic can greatly impact conversion rates. Organic traffic or traffic from highly targeted ads may result in higher conversion rates than traffic from less targeted sources.
Product type: The nature of your product can influence the conversion rate. For example, innovative or disruptive products may see higher conversion rates due to the novelty factor, while more conventional products may have lower conversion rates.
Marketing strategies: The effectiveness of your marketing and messaging can impact the conversion rate. A strong value proposition, clear messaging, and persuasive copy can lead to higher conversion rates.
A/B testing: Continuously test and optimize your landing page to improve conversion rates. Test different headlines, copy, images, and calls-to-action to find the most effective combination.
External factors: Consider external factors such as market demand, competition, and timing when evaluating the success of your landing page.
while your decision framework provides a helpful guideline, it's essential to consider the factors mentioned above when determining if an idea is worth pursuing. It's also crucial to continuously test and optimize your landing page to maximize its potential.
Hope this help you lil bit,
