What's an indie hackers bookkeeping / accounting stack?

Hey Hackers

I incorporated a company remotely in Estonia via the e-residency program and the service provider also offered bookkeeping, annual tax declaration, etc starting at 79€/mo so I literally didn't worry about any of that stuff.

Let's say I wanted to do the same for the US. Incorporation options are widely available, but for the bookkeeping , etc the most cost effective option I found was bench starting at 250$/mo

I think there has to be a better way for a hacker starting from scratch and bootstrapping their company, even DIY

So my questions are:

  • Are you doing the bookkeeping and taxes stuff yourself or paying a third party to do so?

  • In case you DIY, where can I learn about what's required and which tools to use?

I understand that at certain point one will need to hire for or outsource this, but for a company starting from scratch with little transaction volume I can't accept the only option to be a 250$/mo service

depends a lot on where you're based tbh. if you're in the US the usual quickbooks/wave/xero combo works fine. i'm in spain so the tax models are a pain, been using aikount lately and it's been solid — basically an AI agent that does the reconciliations and entries for me and spits out the AEAT forms (303, 130 etc) without me touching a spreadsheet. only really useful if you're spanish though.

Surely, $250 can't be the cheapest option?
