What's going well?

My days are long at the moment. The trips to the shops are pretty depressing. My husband and I are literally juggling the kids.

Whilst things are depressing, I feel it's important to do our best to keep our heads down, keep moving forward and focus on the things we have control over.

A couple of positive things from me:

  • I started a Community Care Cornavirus Challenge - each day I've been messaging at least 3 people to say hello. This is not something I've been actively good at doing in the past, and it's stupid that it takes this situation for me to make me actively do this.
  • I've scored a nice little snippet/feature on a popular podcast.

What about you?

    • I'm developing two small apps with the goal of boosting morale during these difficult times.
    • I started doing couple-yoga with my wife and I really enjoy it.
    • We started walking in the woods next to our house 3 times a day - and it doesn't prevent us from isolating ourselves.
    • I started looking at life from a completely different perspective.
    • And yay! I made my first revenue from Incubator List.

Awesome things all around, first revenue is the icing on the cake :D

Working remotely for my day job (due to the virus) has given me an extra 1.5 hours a day to spend with my family. Also, the productivity increase without the open office distractions has been nice 👍

I'd be unemployable if I couldn't work from home and on my own schedule. Work needs to fit around my life, not the other way around.

I hope something positive for the climate comes about this too.

That's amazing @rosiesherry! I'm gonna do the same with my friends.

Something positive I've been doing is building bunkare.com to help people stay longer at home but I'm currently validating the product :)

    Wonderful post Rosie!

I'm continuing to iron out kinks in my WFH routine. For example, I purchased a Kitchen Safe recently to lock my phone up for most of the day. I dialed into a FB messenger call and apparently it'll send out a phone call, so my phone was ringing nonstop for two and a half hours, which skewed my metrics for iOS Screen Time. Today, I turned off my phone before putting it into the Kitchen Safe. It also helps to not get push notifications through the day, which tempts me to check my chats.

Thanks for trying to bring out some positives Rosie!

I noticed a huge drop in usage of my gratitude journaling app, Happyfeed, recently. I think people are having a hard time even finding little things to reflect on with so much stress, but it's definitely the most important time to focus on the good.

I introduced a feature to reduce the # of posts per day and messaged users about it on Monday and people sent me some of the nicest messages in return. That small gesture made a huge difference and wasn't really too much effort on the product side!

I've been having super-long phone conversations with my friends and family this past week, which was really nice, as I believe it's important that we support each other during this trying time.

Apart from that, I've just been working on my SaaS app, Zlappo.

I'm currently working as a CTO for an Adtech startup here in brazil, our product is in an operational early stage and we were trying to do direct sales to some big names e-commerce here but were struggling a lot, most companies were already happy with their sales/marketing.

But since corona started to explode here we started to get responses from some big names, some responses were for emails we sent 2 months ago. So for us, we're kind of the opposite direction of the economy I guess.

What's the podcast!? You should share the episode when it's out

I will, it needs to happen first!

I'm VERY grateful to have worked hard in the past so that I have nice things now. I have a nice apartment with a cool girlfriend and two beautiful pups that support me. So that is such a blessing. I'm glad to be competent and adaptable.

I'm shifting away from being purely engineering-focused to reaching out and talking to people now. It's hard not touching code but I am forcing my keystrokes to be focused on human-readable text not machine instructions. It's weird for me but I like it :)

I was originally going to take time off after my last business, but dived right into IH work instead. I often questioned myself for doing that, but now I think it was a great choice. My hard work has given me more of a financial buffer, plus I feel I have many more options should things get much worse.

Yes, I notice this as well.

I heard an old man joke for people not come near him.
