What's important to make great interviews?

I'm in the process of creating a project like IndieHackers but with a different focus of course.
I read many of the interviews on IndieHackers and think you're doing a superb job with these and thus wanted to ask if you could share a couple of tips on doing great interviews. In one of your recent status updates you mentioned you put in more time into the interviews — into what in particular?

As disappointing as this may sound, there's no secret to interviewing that I've found! Basically, putting in more team means spending more time researching the people you're going to talk to, seeing what they've done, and thinking up interesting questions and topics to ask them about.
It also means being willing to do more back-and-forth and ask more follow-up questions until the interview meets the standard that you want it to be at.
But there's a tradeoff. At some point there will be diminishing returns to quality, and you'll need to focus on quantity. Where that point lies really depends on the fundamentals of your business and what provides value to readers.
