What's one productivity hack that worked for you?

For me, I like the "5 minute trick." Basically, I promise myself to do whatever I'm supposed to do for at least 5 minute, and at the end of that I can decide to quit. I almost never quit.

  1. 7

I like hand written checklists, and making tasks bite size. It feels good crossing items off.

  2. 4

Doing the most demanding or boring thing early in the working day or session.

  3. 3

The healthiest way to eat broccoli is to microwave it from frozen (retains more nutrients). This might sound like I'm trolling but I eat a lot of veg and this has probably saved me more than 50 hours at this point

Ok and more in the spirit of the question - probably committing to a todo list app (ticktick)

Trello board of daily, weekly and annual targets.

    • Make sure it's simple and achievable at the low level - which gives the mental effects of accomplishment as you tick stuff off.
    • Make sure adequately following the daily and weekly stuff will result in you meeting your annual targets - which means you have something you're working towards.

    Checklists & reminders.

Hand-written 1-4 item to-do list on a post-it note in front of me the whole day (see this for more) + noise-cancelling headphones and a song I like on repeat.

Here’s a psychological trick I’ve learned from James Clear about headphones. Use a certain pair of headphones every time you want to go into “deep work”. Getting into this habit makes you instantly focus and get things done when you put that pair of headphones on, even when you feel very demotivated!

Reminds me of Seth Godin only using 1 specific conference room for brainstorming.

I'm a big fan of the 5 minute tricks. Use it for years.

I'm adept (almost fanatic) to Productivity Challenge Timer (on Android) which is the gamification of Pomodoro. It can be used to track your time, too.

It works sometimes a bit too well... I need to stop, sometimes 😁

I have a certain set of songs which I listen to while I am working, and any time I find myself being distracted, I play the playlist and it helps me get into the zone and focus

GTD - getting things done. Using this framework in conjunction with Clickup has been a huge time/life saver.

    Pomodoro technique

U like to use the same 5-minute method you are doing but also combining that with the Pomodoro technique. I have found that working in intervals keeps me going for longer and also reminds me to take the breaks I need to stretch around and maybe grab something to eat etc.

FastClip, pick up your clipboard history.

Inspired by all the hacks shared in this thread, I published my first article (at genefits.substack.com) on how to get things done even when one doesn't feel like it.

My preference is working on the most important task in the morning when my brain is sharpest. Then, the 'necessities of life - rent, food and other bills to be paid' fuels me to work on other tasks.

  14. 1

Make a list of the tasks I'm going to work on first thing in the morning. Tasks should be very specific and take me 1h or less, so I can complete more than one and feel like I'm making progress throughout the day

  15. 1

When I have a routine task, I'm switching on an audiobook in the background to keep up the flow of work for longer hours - once you're attached to the narrative, it really keeps the work uninterrupted.

  16. 1

Personally I like to time box, I typically use the pomodoro technique. Though I find it has some limitations. For example, it can interrupt your flow

Sold my windows PC and consoles. I wasted a lot of time gaming, not having them prevents the procrastination.

If I want to game, I go to my friend's houses to play now.
