These are two different questions.
I don't know if it's true that people who will actually volunteer are actually not doing so cause volunteering isn't streamlined to uber level. It's easy to come up with reasons on something you won't actually do.
Good insight! Do you know of any reasons people who will actually volunteering are not doing so? Or approaches to find this out?
I think this path of questioning would lead you to false places.
Better find people who are actually volunteering and ask them questions like if there was a thing that would have made them start earlier. And how much earlier. There you would find if there is a gap, how big and valuable is it.
I think it's because I'm lazy. It's a very simple reason, but it's true. I don't really want to do anything and if you ask me to do something, I'll say "no." It's not that I have no skills or experience in volunteering; in fact, I have quite a lot of them. I know how to cook, clean, organize my apartment, and how take care of plants. But none of those things are interesting enough for me to want to volunteer for them. You can also feel intimidated by the idea of volunteering or think that you're not qualified for a particular position.
I volunteer for Scouts, for my provincial four wheel drive association (we do trail cleanups and rebuild historic fire towers), my four wheel drive club, my Ride To Conquer Cancer fundraising team, and the Fireman's Children Burn Camp. I have no problem finding places to volunteer. I've had problems finding the time to volunteer, but I make it work.
People volunteer because they are passionate about what they're volunteering for. What are you passionate about? Find a group that does what you're passionate about, and ask, "how can I help?"
