What's the Fastest Way to Get My First 100 Paid Subscribers

After acquiring Friend Convert late last year, my team and I have spent the better part of 2021 next working on the extension.

A lot has gone into improving its functionality but not much has been done on marketing.

But still, there's been a bit of progress.

I'm glad to announce that I just made my first paid subscription.

Not a huge milestone but then it's an indication that brighter days are ahead.

Congrats to me 😀

Next milestone is getting my first 100 paid subscribers.

I'd appreciate your advice.

Identify your niche, pick specific groups regarding that niche. Always post helpful contents, that way they will be encountering your name often. This act will convert them into leads.

Can you go into a bit more detail about your acquisition? Did you acquire it as a finished product but no paid subscribers yet? How did you find FriendAcquire? Thanks and best of luck

      Sure.

A friend created the extension initially and it was a finished product when I bought it from him.

The product had already attracted a lot of unpaid subs that later cancelled because some elements were missing.

So when I came in, I added the payment gateway, created a new funnel, and uploaded the latest version to chrome.

      Hope this addressed your questions.

    Hi

    Get 1, get 10, get 50, get 100.

My suggestion is to identify marketing channels that work and scale them quickly. The way to do this is try LEAN experiments across the main channels. Monitor them, report on them and see what ones show good indicators. These are the ones to work on.

If you don't know where to start in terms of the first experiments, then try https://first100users.com/

Hi can you explain more about “LEAN” ? Not familiar with that term

      1. 1

        @hermankayy Yes of course.

Here I am talking about running small experiments designed to help learn. Instead of spending £500 on Google Face or Twitter what can I learn with £50? Instead of emailing 100s of people what happens when I email 5?

The idea is you keep it simple, and optimise to learn quickly, then put more effort into things that seem to work.

Makes sense, Olly. I checked the link you shared. Pretty cool stuff. I'll be checking the resources often. Thanks for your input.

How'd you get your first subscription?

    1. 1

Honestly, I can't tell. They probably found it on the chrome webstore.

I’d recommend reaching out to open lines of communication and start building the relationship. Thank them for signing up, ask them how they found out about you, and offer to be available to support them. Then eventually find out what drew them to your product and what they are hoping to get out of it - this will inform your future marketing efforts: which channels are working, how to position yourself, and what your selling points are. Also, referrals are the best acquisition channel, so make sure this customer has a great experience! Hope this helps!

          It definitely helps. Thanks.

I have noted your insightful tips and will act on it.

You need to find out. Not assume, find out how they found you. Look for others like them - same demographics.
Set up a system to have such data readily available. It costs nothing.

The answer to the next 99 paid subscribers could be in finding out how #1 got you.

Thanks to you and Dave's suggestion, I have created a simple survey that I'll be sharing with my new subscribers going forward. You rock!

Assuming that's the case, maybe focus on improving your visibility/ranking on the Chrome Store.

Thank you so much Alexanderg. I'll work on it.
