What's the hardest part about creating a landing page for you? ๐Ÿคฌ

Hey Indie Hackers! It's Alex again. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘‹

Eric Migicovsky says that the best startups are looking for problems that people face on a regular basis or that they're painful enough to warrant solving.

I would want to talk about specifics around the problem area that I'm trying to solve. Can you tell me about the hardest part of creating a landing page for you?

For me, it's largely writing the copy. Distillation of the core idea can be tricky.

As for using templates and stuff, it does seem like a waste of money to pay $20-30 for webflow or something, but I do it sometimes, just to get up and running quickly.

lastly, finding appropriate illustrations to go with the copy is also kinda annoying. Illustrations are a bit overdone, and nowadays, I just use minimal icons, and try to get away with it. But I think the hardest part is just making the copy to address concerns, and objections, and talk about benefits, not features.

Hey Wil. Thanks for your reply! It's so interesting.
What have you done to try to solve the problem with writing the copy?

        Ah, customer dev.

I start with the copy by drafting and outline in google docs. If I can't nail the copy first, I don't bother with finding a template or a host.

            Being succinct.

But to be helpful, it's often reifying and clarifying what this thing I'm trying to build is, and if I know, how to explain it, or how to say it succinctly. Often times, if there's difficulty at this point, it's probably because I don't know my market well enough, and need to go find a couple potential users to talk to first.

I haven't tried this, but I thought about having an outline or questionnaire or application format to go through a checklist of things that I want to make sure I answer, which would make writing the copy easier, such as what are people's objections and how to answer them? What is the job to be done? In what context?

Got it. Wil, have you already tried ยซcopy.aiยป or a similar solution to solve the problem with nailing the copy?

There are lot of great tools and templates, but so expensive.

As an early founder just looking to test something I don't wanna spend ยฃ75-100/month on Thrive themes etc. or a campaign that may not even generate leads/sales.

Hi Eric. Thank you for your comment. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™‚
Can you tell me about the last time you encountered that problem?

      1. 2

About every 3 months. Now I just use Mailchimp or Elementor for a quick free landing page.

Ok, I see. Thx for the answer, Eric.
What don't you love about Mailchimp and Elementor?
