What's the most important lesson you've learned from indie hacking so far?

It's all in the title!

Most important lesson for me so far is that I need to enjoy the projects that I work on.

Your motivation is the most valuable resource that you have. Prioritize work that keeps you motivated even if it's suboptimal when it comes to pure ROI.

The most important lesson for me is that I need to live in the moment. Enjoy the process. No fears. No anxieties. Not living above my means. Taking risks one at a time.

The most important lesson I've learned so far is to take it all as a process for personal growth. It's a lot of trial and error type of learning rather than something you might study in a more rote manner like in school.

I postponed my start until I was financially secure, and I think that saved me a lot of stress. Live below your means and have a low overhead.

That no one has the key to success.
It's a subjective factor and the more we look for it externally, the further away we get from it.
Either way, it remains a great place to get inspiration and have a valid comparison.

    • Validate first
    • Start charging as early as possible
    • Be consistent
    • Don't get discouraged when things seem like they are not working
    • Be flexible and adapt

Currently working on BotMeNot. Sometimes there are quieter days, sometimes I spend a whole day communicating with Beta Users. What I've learned is that these fluctuations in responses should not deter you from your main goal. You shouldn't feel let down during the quieter periods, nor should you think the work is done when you get positive feedback.

Arguably the most difficult "profession" in the world if you go all-solo (building, marketing, strategy, biz) and full-on (not a side project). You need smart tooling and community support: buddies, mentors, coaches.
