Yesterday I commented about my newsletter in a subreddit EntrepreneurRideAlong, te comment got over 20 upvotes. Since then I got around 15 subscribers in the last 24 hours, usually it takes me a week to get that much subscribers. I think that's the most unusual for me. Beside that reddit & twitter dm.
Beside that you can simply post entire newsletter issue on a subreddit of your niche. Like my niche is remote work so I frequently post my issues on r/remotework and r/digitalnomad
I regularly invite folks to follow my newsletter by using a snippet in aText (a text expander on Mac) and dropping it in to casual email conversations with folks. It's a slow, boring, 1 by 1 approach, but tends to build stronger relationships over time.

I literally just took a screenshot of my newsletter. And they have the button ask me anything so I put "insert your email is you want the best sports stories from the west coast in your email" I got like three adds from 800 followers for westcoastsports.substack.com

Yes I have mine on my email signature although because I'm on Substack the tracking is not great.
