Hi there :)
I just launched my new side-hustle 'BETA Review'.
I'm wondering what everyone is using to accept online payments?
This is in BETA mode so I just need to be able to accept small amounts for reviewing products. Any simple suggestions appreciated
How many users do you want/expect for your beta and is it ok for there to be a delay between registration and access?
If it's really small I'm going to go against the grain and suggest something even simpler than Stripe like a QR code to a Venmo account. You can then manually send signup links or upgrade registered accounts.
It doesn't scale at all but it's much faster to implement and I think users (at least me) would find it to be the lowest-friction option - totally willing to venmo someone $5 to demo an app I'm interested in but almost never willing to put in CC info for that
Thanks.
I'm guessing small numbers for the BETA so simple is good.
Users will register the BETA product / site they'd like to have reviewed, and then I'd send them a link to pay the $50. It's a validation experiment for the first few projects, so a tool like the Venmo would be awesome.
There's no need for it to be instant (registration -> payment -> access) either, as the feedback is a 24hr turnaround.
I'm based in Australia though so Venmo is not a thing here 'yet'
Never used Venmo, is just for mobile or also for pc?
I'm reading is available only in the USA, so I'm not sure could be good for an worldwide business.
What about Wise?
Anyone has any experience?
Yep, I'm based in Australia so Venmo isn't here just yet.
We do have stripe but the set-up etc seems a bit more complex then this project may need.
The IH project is to review BETA sites & products for founders with feedback within 24 hours, so a simple payment link would be amazing.
I just saw Airwallex which looks like an interesting option, but not sure how complex it will be to set up
Well, let us know about Airwallex!
Thanks everyone - I ended up using Stripe for simplicity.
Fee's are steep but i was up and running pretty quick!
I also implemented Stripe for Context Bio - great API, plenty of documentation and support on web.
Beware using Stripe wrappers though - maybe easier to set up, but you will be bound to that platform. Similar case with ChatGPT wrappers and SaaS boilerplate "frameworks".
Hi Jaime,
I use Stripe for my websites, I think at the very beginning could be a good way to accept payments
Awesome, thanks Joe.
Was it complicated to set up?
Depends on how you want it be integrated in your website
You can use its wizard to create a link for your payment and then create a backend for the response
Maybe on Youtube you can find some guides
thanks :)
thanks :)
LemonSqueezy is probably the right choice, easy to set up and you can easily send some marketing emails out with it.
If you want the fastest setup: Paddle or LemonSqueezy or Gumroad
If you want the cheapest fees: Stripe
Don't get tricked by their advertised rates though. Paddle and LS say "5% fee" but in reality, it's anywhere between 5 - 10%. Gumroad's fees are more around 12.5%.
@jivings created a great calculator for the payment fees of Paddle, LS, and Stripe here: (can't post links yet, but search for "saasfeecalc")
Awesome
