Because boy did I just pull off the dumbest fucking thing I've seen myself do in a long time.
I planned to launch Job Board Fire 2.0 on PH today and had it scheduled as such. At around 11:50 I changed my mind and decided to update the scheduled post to launch at a later date. I saved changes and I received a success message so I went to grab something to eat.
As I'm getting ready to chow down a few minutes after midnight, something pops up on my phone (Notification.png). I've received an Intercom message from a gentleman in Bangladesh offering to "Promote Products By Product Hunt Service for You".
It took a second for me to realize what happened, and all I could muster was a calm Geralt of Rivia like "fuck".
Today I launched Job Board Fire 2.0 with test images in the gallery, a description that read something along the lines of "this is a work in progress description", and no maker comment.
Honestly, at the end of the day, I'm just thankful that Bangladeshi spammer messaged me. If it wasn't for his message I would have gone to bed none the wiser to my tragedy of a launch. Thanks to him I at least managed to salvage the post and can send something to my mailing list.
If you want to check out the now somewhat salvaged but still severely behind in upvotes product, here's the link: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/job-board-fire-2-0
Please make fun of me for this, I deserve it š
Smart post. I like your attitude: upvoted on PH and here.
Thanks, you magnificent unicorn.
Something similar happened to me when I launched my Adobe Illustrator extension, Logo Package Express. I had set a launch date a month earlier and when the time came, the product wasn't ready. I sell on Gumroad, and they won't let you change the launch time if it's within 24 hours. I DID NOT KNOW THAT. I ended up having to send pre-order customers an IOU in a text file. On top of that many of my customers were double, triple, or even quadruple charged :|
All I can say is: ouch brother. Your situation sounds tougher, to be honest.
We got the full product launched on launch day, just much later than we anticipated. Also, I sent email blasts to my double-charged customers showing how I was trying to resolve the issue with Gumroad and it must have humanized me. Several of the double-charged customers asked to be affiliates after that haha!
Haha I must admit you have managed to present the situation in a very light-hearted way. Upvoted!
Thanks, I tried :)
Good luck with PH just upvoted you :)
I'm trying to launch as well currently top 4.
Thanks mate, upvoted your product as well.
