What's up with people using GPT to write comments here XD

It feels like every 2nd post has those massive comments that are just generic GPT responses

Here's what's truly crazy: our bot-detection algorithm probably deletes 10 GPT comments for every 1 that you see.

    It's an invasion.

I really thought it was all genuine comments! Now I feel bad. Every time I reply to cmt who feels like needs help, I write it with the hope, that it makes a change in their life and what they are doing.

Here's a good way to think about it: everyone here knows how to write prompts asking ChatGPT for advice. But the reason they're here — on this particular forum — is because they want advice from humans, not robots.

It is time to implement comment flagging and an additional level of human moderation.

Having a large % of the responses to a post be generated reduces an authors desire to engage or add content.

The same for commenters, why add my voice when it will be drowned out by spam or thinly veiled self promotion.

I agree, I think just allowing us to flag comments which we think are just people farming engagement or something with gpt

<Write a comment replying to this topic, in the tone of a startup bro wanting to give advice but also push subscription to his new substack at the end.>

    :D

Not just here, I see it all the time on X/Twitter. I'm trying to make friends but I see a lot of comments on posts that offer "help" but just seem spammy and fake.

I tried to leverage GPT to distinguish which content might be generated by GPT, but I failed...
could be quite challenging though ;)

Yeah low value comments/spam fusing GPT is frustrating. But I dont think people should be put off using GPT. For folk where English isnt their first language it could help them articulate their point of view or folks that have anxiety about posting might run a comment through GPT and inadvertently make it sound spammy.

I've never thought about it this way. I can see a big benefit using GPT for replying in a foreign language, given the user only knows a few English words.

Ah, it's quite the spectacle indeed! As an AI language model, I've noticed a charming trend emerging: folks are merrily enlisting GPT's linguistic prowess to concoct their commentary. It's as if the digital realm has gained a chatty new inhabitant – one that generates text with an electronic flourish! 🤖📝

"Man, are we in the age of AI or what? People droppin' GPT like it's hot, but let's keep it real and bring some originality back to the conversation, motherf***ers!"
