        1. 1

Psh. I like the posts. And congrats on your fist paid subscriber! Remotely Inclined is free right now and I am stumped on what paid might look like, so you are giving me inspiration

          1. 1

Thank you. Umm thinking about your newsletter here. The obvious monetization strategy is paid ads - promote tools that make remote work easier. But.. I know this is boring. Let's see what else can you do...

Maybe create yet another remote job listing site (but somehow better than others) and promote that through your newsletter.

Consult on areas of remote work - maybe how to build team culture in a remote work world. I dunno.. just spitballing here haha.

Make a micro SaaS tool of some sort that helps with remote work, and promote it subtly through your newsletter. (this is kind of what I plan to do with Swipe - though I have not pushed it at all yet).

Hold training sessions on helping companies cope with remote work culture (maybe share case studies of how other companies are doing it and what's working for them in terms of employee motivation, retention etc...)

Sorry, not too many exciting ideas here, but maybe that'll get the ideas going and you come up with something more interesting!

            1. 1

These are great ideas! It's nice to hear it described by someone else (solopreneur problems - talking to myself all day). Thank you kindly

      1. 2

Thanks! Yeah, I try to keep is super simple (also helps me complete it every day!)

Right now I'm working on a better (longer) homepage though to give more info to people, so I'll be interested to see if that converts better.

    https://strangersalmanac.substack.com/welcome

    1. 1

I love this concept. Subscribed. Have to ask -- how did you get folks to like posts so much? I get great readership on mine, but not as much "like" engagement (1 or 2 per post, you're getting >10)

      1. 2

I am just starting in the newsletter world, which means I spend around 4-5 hours on countless facebook groups just talking to people and asking for advice and feedback. I usually read other people's newsletters and actually engage and provide valuable feedback to them. I guess that when they do see that I care they do the same for me? I am still trying to figure it out and trying to find a more sustainable strategy to build my list. Any advice is welcomes!

        1. 1

Oh I'm solidly in the 'do things that don't scale' phase of growth, but loving it.

Here's what I do that's helped with audience growth:

          • Aggregators: Submit newsletter to aggregators (probably brought in ~10 subscribers, but super low effort)

          • My own social: I put out posts before and after publishing - before is an "I'll be talking about X" preview and then after is the content itself (primary driver of traffic).

          • Other communities: I sometimes post the articles in slack communities I'm a part of, if relevant

          • Quora: I answer as many questions as possible on Quora. I don't link in every one (not in most, actually), but I have the link in my bio + the more you answer in relevant categories, the better your chances of being a most-viewed writer. That gets you featured on their most viewed writers page + higher likelihood that they will send your post in Quora digest emails (their newsletter)

          • Favors: I have absolutely straight up asked people to share my newsletter. I then thanked the person every time a subscriber came in after they shared it (within reasonable timeline, like an hour after they tweeted or something). In one example, one person got so excited that she kind of made a challenge for herself to see how many sub's she could get me in a day - she got me 22.

          • Luck: By happenstance, I've been featured in a few people's newsletters and even in media as a "remote work thinker"

          • Build your own demand gen: I built remotelyinbusiness.com as a way to scratch my own itch in finding resources that were helpful in running a remote business. But I also put a few of my own articles up there that were relevant. Helps drive a tiny bit of traffic, but increases my brand as a remote work person.

          • Interviews: When I interview people, they share it. Plus it opens up chances for me to get interviewed.

          1. 1

Awesome! I never thought about Quora and Slack! Thank you so much. I have also got a good amount of people from reddit, I dont know if you use it as well!

            1. 1

I don't know how to use reddit, honestly. I always feel like I'm either going be to accused of trolling or get trolled. I feel like I need to spend more time there

  23. 3

Tailwind Weekly - The best news source for TailwindCSS resources.

    1. 1

Actually can I share it on my newsletter next week?

    2. 1

Nooice ! 🙌 I am going to subscribe because I am building a tiny thing regarding Tailwind.

I like it so much that I have included a Tailwind CSS colors color picker on Colors & fonts

      1. 1

Nice site! Is this more for people who want to use tailwind colors without using tailwind?

        1. 1

Thank you ! I added a Tailwind color picker because for example. I liked a shade that a site was using so Isearched for it on Tailwind docs so I thought that having the picker there, users will save time.
