Getting more template builders for https://versoly.com/

It is hard because template builders look for proven markets or think there are too many templates.

    1. 1

website builders are crowded. they have too many options now. how do you plan to decide which category template should be built first?

        1. 1

Old saying but different perspective., thanks for sharing

      1. 1

"they have too many options now"

Give them all a try and see how they work.

Each platform is very different and has trade offs. With Versoly I have been able to limit trade offs because tech has improved (but it still isn't as simple as other builders as I/customers want flexibility)

I went with SaaS because I was part of Indie hackers (and lots of them were being created).

Also SaaS sites look mostly the same.

Now that i'm using Tailwind as the core I can be more flexible.

So i'm looking for template builders to create portfolios/agencies templates so we can onboard freelancers/agencies to the platform.

From there I will let template builders know what customers are asking for.

        1. 1

I have started camplates.com with the same intentions but not for website builders. I hired designers and created 100 templates to show content on the website. in the end, we onboarded a bunch of designers on the platform as a marketplace to sell.

For 6 months we were gone with 0 sales. we realized we now have dozens of designers who are uploading their designs but nobody is buying from them. We realized

          • we created the general purpose templates
          • general purpose templates are everywhere on Etsy.
          • we couldn't understand the loop problem.. buyers need sellers & sellers need buyers. we can't onboard one at a time.
          • since we started early we have a massive opportunity in the canva design market but we missed it and sites like Envato and ThemeForest start taking over

I still haven't dropped it but waiting to come up with a good business model.

So I'd suggest picking one niche and get builders only in that niche

          1. 1

How many people are searching for Canva templates?

Why are you marketing to canva template builders?

            1. 1

Because it's the future, so many folks are jumping to canva leaving photoshop. and you can see the surge in canva designs in the last 3 years. It makes it so easy to design anything. So we just decided to empower those designers by selling their templates.

But who are the buyers?? they just care about the design, not the template.. so our end target again became canva designers only.. instead of business owners.
              that's where the blunder happened.

I left that model and back to working on dictozo.com which is doing well

          2. 1

The niche is freelance web design/developers (and agencies).

The big problem with hiring folks is the quality is low and they don't care long term.

I already know folks doing 1000s a month selling Tailwind templates part time.

Versoly opens up a huge new market (combined with the existing one).

The hard part is getting them to use Versoly. It seems to be an issue with indies as they want to be independent lol.

After thinking about it forever I've finally launched a YouTube channel. Well, I published the first video today that is. My number one goal at the moment is to continue to grow as a software developer and teach as I go.

    1. 1

      What's your youtube link?

      1. 1

Thanks for asking! It is https://www.youtube.com/c/VincePolston/

First video is a crash course on Chart.js - a Javascript library for creating charts. I actually hit the 30 minute mark and was like.. there's a lot more I want to teach.. which is leading to video 2 which will cover charting data from an API, visual animations, and integrating third-party plugins. I'll be making and uploading that this week :)

        1. 1

          Cool man, subscribed!

          Chart.js looks very nice -- I've used C3js and D3js before.

I'm making a few analytics pages for Vibehut.io,

For example, want to show the most common users in this room
          https://vibehut.io/rooms/6304c25f8ac27200164bd65f

Or breakout the call count by which rooms / who I was talking too for my profile

          https://vibehut.io/profile/616f42bf7d958fb8bd808621

Would be happy to chat if you're around, seems I could use chartjs for this and maybe we can make some video content as well.

          Can DM me here https://twitter.com/1dolinski

          1. 1

Oh man. Depending on what type of data you're storing that could be pretty cool. If you're storing durations you could get some nice analytics of increase/decrease of average call to help gauge health/growth. I haven't been active on Twitter for quite some time, might have to dust it off!

            1. 1

For sure, when works? If Twitter is dusty, feel free to email me chris@vibehut.io or dm me on discord 1dolinski#6164

  4. 2

Goal is to make 18 lpa, or 1.5 lakh per month (2000 USD / month Approx)

  5. 2

Being able to earn $1k/month consistently with my side projects. Then I'll work full-time as an indie developer.

    1. 2

Hey @denniscmartin! That's such a cool goal, I felt compelled to reply to you πŸ‘

If you don't mind me asking, what makes $1k the number that will make you switch?
And since you're implying that you're not currently doing full-time, how much time are you currently spending?

Curious to hear your thoughts πŸ˜„

      1. 2

Hi! Thanks for your response. Currently I'm spending around 4 hours every day. It's enough to ship a few products every year, but I know how much my development process will improve by dedicating more hours.

Where I live, with $1k I can pay rent and since I have savings, I could pay all of the rest of my expenses for several months. So yeah, money is time for me.

What about you? Do you work full-time as an indie?

        1. 2

That is such a great perspective! I am both impressed and jealous that $1k will make rent πŸ˜„

I have just recently joined the 'indie hacking' community, so I am not quite there yet. I work a fulltime job, admittedly one I have equity stake in and one I plan/hope(?) to make it big with.

But I've always dreamt of having my own thing, it's been a strong pull throughout my life which is why I have about ~4 failed projects/startups throughout my life.
Now I'm really trying to learn and replicate the steps other have taken; being smart my time.
I'm dedicating less than 10 hours every week, but will scale that up over time as I start becoming more confident in the process and seeing more progress πŸ˜„

          Really excited for the journey!

          1. 2

It's nice to know more about your story. I hope you good in your journey as an Indie dev. If you ever need help, reach me out!

            1. 1

I will definitely do that. Thank you for offering πŸ™

Getting atleast 20 people to give me a "yes I would us this" for a "follow up" slack/email bot idea I have.

Following up with some one to complete work every X days is tough.

The bot sends them a polite reminder every X days checking if your task is done. Feedback?

    1. 1

Where would someone find the bot?

      1. 0

Its an idea at this point. If I see enough demand, I'll go at it.

        Do you think its useful?

          1. 1

Btw I took a look at vibehut.

I have another idea for a bot that can send you a daily list of forum posts that are relevant to vibehut.

For example, "webex vs teams?", "best place to do product interviews" etc

It'll crawl forum posts and give you a list of every question where you can promote.

The benefit is that it can work across every possible forum on the internet. Not just reddit/indiehackers/quora etc.

            Does that sound useful?

    2. 1

      Who is the target audience?

Managers following up with their direct reports? Following up with a contractor that you hired? Following up with an "equal partner"?

I anticipate each of those categories would have different pain points.

      1. 1

Thanks for the reply. I've so far verified with Technical Writers who have to chase developers and engineers to give them info they need for documentation. I've seen a lot of excitement from them. Curious to understand who else may be interested.

    3. 1

Nagging as a service :-) interesting idea. If done in Slack with s good UX I think it is a cool concept. No opinion if it is a $$$ maker though.

      1. 1

Btw I had another idea. A bot that sends you a daily list of relevant forum posts where you can share your product.

Like if you sell a video calling product, you would want to reply to posts like "webex vs teams" or "best video calling apps etc"

Its like a daily list of these posts across every forum on the internet.

      2. 1

Haha I'm definitely gonna use "Nagging as a Service" going ahead :)

  7. 1

Getting users to build APIs/backend/integrations with the tool I am building: https://letsbuildapis.org

What would you want from such tool to give it a try?

  8. 1

@usehappen Chris your email address on Indiehackers chris@usehappen.com bounces with this message
    "Address not found
Your message wasn't delivered to chris@usehappen.com because the address couldn't be found, or is unable to receive mail. "

    1. 1

hey, that's not good, will fix that, thanks! Can use -- chris@vibehut.io

      1. 1

This address does not seem to work either, it just takes longer to fail.

        1. 1

This one works, it's my regular -- saw your message on discord, will give you a call today at 10am PST

          1. 1

It's now 1030am PST and no sound no picture. But it's nice we can have a conversation in the comments section of IndieHackers. Perhaps some day we can switch to email or phone.

You originally reached out to me via a twitter DM on Fri-Sep-2 "Hey Sean, saw you running a Bootstrapper Breakfast on Indie Hackers. Would love to chat when you have a moment about a few low hanging opportunities for us."

I answered three hours later "Chris you can give me a call at 408-252-9676 or email me at skmurphy@skmurphy.com What is it you would like me to say yes to?" At this point I have reached the limits of my curiosity about "low hanging opportunities for us." I did not get response which led me to follow up via email in case my reply had gotten lost.

I have been facilitating Bootstrapper Breakfasts since 2006 and gotten a lot of inquiries from folks who would like to spam our members with "free offers." I have reluctantly concluded that this is where you and I are headed since you cannot seem to take yes for an answer.

            1. 1

Sorry my bad, was caught up in a deployment. Calling now.

  9. 1

Getting sponsorship through github and passing my phd comp exams.

    Networking.

  10. 1

Get 100 subscriptions, then work full time

    1. 1

      100 subscriptions for what?

      1. 1

        my minimum cost of living

  11. 1

More revenue is the goal, go from a somewhat linear to exponential growth.

I work on this by testing and adding more customer acquisition channels and working on highly differentiating features (solving the "hard problems").

  12. 1

Better onboarding for our community. Creating clear steps that are not boring! Our clientele are more shy so getting them more motivated to jump in events and classes. Once they try it they love it.

    1. 2

What's your community, is there a link?

      1. 1

Hi @usehappen, It's the Jaunty Gym - It's a community and social skills "gym" with live virtual socialization classes. We practice and learn how to make small talk, how to flirt, how to deal with difficult conversations, and more. Thanks for asking.

        https://www.jaunty.org/jaunty-gym

        1. 1

This looks really awesome, you have a super landing page too.

I'd love to have an intro call about your onboarding strategy. What times this week work?

  13. 1

    Build a SaaS product. 😁

    1. 1

How far are you along now?

      1. 1

Very early in the process. Going build a link shortener first and a couple more in the next few months.

        https://readingwaters.com/notes/3-projects-in-3-months :)

        1. 2

That's really cool, anytime you want to chat about your projects feel free to join here

          https://vibehut.io/rooms/6304c25f8ac27200164bd65f

Or just hit "Free to talk" in the bottom right corner.

  14. 1

I've just started coding a platform for all things related with blockchain: resources for people who want to get their foot into it, posts, jobs, etc.
I think my main struggle will be to gather a community but planning on organising some meetups in London.

I'm getting there by every day committing at least 2h of my time to it.
It would really help me to find speakers for the future meetups i want to organise :)

    1. 1

That's cool, what kind of meetups are you looking to organize?

  15. 1

As a dev, my goal is to learn sales and marketing. I run my own business (dev staff augmentation) and soon realized that I suck at selling and marketing my services.

    1. 1

If you're ever looking to practice sales or talk about sales marketing techniques. Here's an open Indie hacker video room to talk with others

      https://vibehut.io/rooms/6304c25f8ac27200164bd65f

    2. 1

Struggling with the same! One of my side projects combines my passion for photography and vintage clothing, but when it comes to sales and marketing that business I always have to recur to paid ads :(

      1. 1

Start sales and marketing by talking to people. Here's a 24/7 video call room for indie hackers https://vibehut.io/rooms/6304c25f8ac27200164bd65f

      2. 1

So I spent a considerable amount of time building scraping tools and collected thousands of emails and LinkedIn profile urls for leads in my target niche. Now I don’t know what to do with it. I’m thinking about building a cold email SaaS tool where you can create emails with personalized videos. I’d love to run the idea if folks are interested.

        1. 1

@justbuildit, wouldn't be it easier and faster for you to grow by getting help in marketing and sales? If yes, I'm happy to look at your business, maybe I could help.

In the past year, I supported Colombian Saas Startup in launching their sales in Europe, only through outbound strategies (cold mailing, cold calling, events, etc.). I helped them to close the biggest supermarket in Poland (12 billion euros in revenue), and opened a lot of conversations with other retailers.

If this sounds interesting you can ping me on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/eryk-put/

          1. 1

Really cool that you're so supportive, if you're looking to help more people here's a video call room to chat with other indie hackers

            https://vibehut.io/rooms/6304c25f8ac27200164bd65f

        2. 1

Check out Hubspot Academy, they have a bunch of great resources on marketing which, hopefully, will lead to sales.

  16. 1

My goal is to get an internship with a startup, and learn as much as possible about running a business. To accomplish that, I am talking to professors, applying to companies, and working on my side projects.

    1. 2

That's cool, what kind of internship are you looking to do? What kind of side projects?

      1. 1

I am a software engineer, so definitely a software internship. I know startups often need generalists so I am willing to help with other aspects too!

Also, my project is at cubingapp.com

  17. 1

Loose some weight and get healthier after 2 years of growing a saas after my full time job and no training at all whatsoever, now that it got acquired I have enough time to put it on me and already lost 25kg, 10kg to go and I am happy.
    😁

Also,I am rebranding my studio unwrapped.design to host all my projects and productsand make a product out of it.

    1. 1

That's awesome, a healthy body is vital

  18. 1

Need help finding a co founder for restaurant-robotics.com

  19. 1

To get the first paying users for Trendflow (a tool to discover and study YouTube trends.) I'd like to get some feedback before a full-on launch.

    1. 1

That's awesome, anytime you'd like real feedback join the Indie hacker room here and screenshare your product. https://vibehut.io/rooms/6304c25f8ac27200164bd65f

      1. 1

        Will do :)
        Thanks for sharing this room.

  20. 1

getting 10k users/month on our website.

    1. 1

      How far are you along?

  21. 1

We are really struggling to get users to join https://krumzi.com even though everything is completely free.
So I would say the #1 at the moment is improving our marketing and getting people to trust us.

    1. 3

Did you build an audience beforehand?

      1. 1

I haven't unfortunately. I think that's one of the biggest mistakes that I have made so far.

    2. 2

Just signed up. If any companies are seeking interns on there, I will definitely apply :)

      1. 1

Thank you! We are continuously doing our best to get people to post jobs in there, internships as well!

    3. 2

Could you refer me on the "Test test" position? :D

      1. 2

Sure thing :D Thank you for trying it out!

  22. 1

make some applications that i will automate my need if it goes well put it on playstore and istore

  23. 1

Mine is getting first person to use the product. Knocking on doors offering free explainer videos, collecting feedback. Ready audience would be nice but you've got what you've got. The product is animationkit.io.

    1. 1

Its usually a good idea to get 30 - 40 people to say "yes i want this" before you start a product. Doesn't take a lot of effort honestly

I've gone through the cycle of building a product and then having a weak launch. Its really demotivating personally.

But the idea you've got is really cool though. Really easy to use. Have shared my email. Good luck!

    2. 1

Cool product! I tried it out and had a few initial questions, specifically on how to change up the tutorial example into something I can use.

Scheduled a video call to go through them, RSVP if you can talk at this time (11am EST on Monday)

      https://vibehut.io/rooms/6304c25f8ac27200164bd65f/events/631225f938719b00168a2370

      1. 1

Oh thanks! Looking forward to chatting.

        1. 1

Same, have a few outstanding questions about your product :D
