Doing some market research and wondering what is the #1 platform indie makers use? Is it Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or something else?
How frequently do you use it? And why is it your favorite social media app?
Any insight can be helpful and greatly appreciated!
Twitter so far, but I can't wait for BlueSky to be open to the public. I'll be amongst the first to jump ship.
Twitter is my favorite too! Have not heard much about BlueSky, but curious. Thanks for your insight, @StanBright
Twitter is my favorite. Over the past six months, I have been able to establish a network with indie hackers and gain 1800 followers.
Although it may not be considered fast growth, it has been steady and consistent. The people on Twitter are incredibly friendly and we engage in daily conversations through tweets where we share our thoughts and learn from one another.
This is great insight, @dearroy; thank you! Twitter is my favorite platform too. What are some of the things that helped you to gain those 1800 followers? If you don't mind sharing :)
Twitter is simply the best.
Couldn't agree more. Any particular reason why it's your fave?
Couple of reasons
Also one thing I've realised, if there is founder, creator, etc you want to connect to and talk to Twitter works like a charm.
Twitter & LinkedIn.
Heya! Thanks for the response. Any reason these two are your top choices?
Ye. I got positive feedback from these two platforms. Moreover, these two are more professional compared to other media platforms. Thanks
100% agree! Thanks again @HamimHacker
actually is Instagram
Oh, great to know. Any particular reason you prefer Instagram over other social media platforms @Moroccoitinerary? Appreciate the insight!
in my point of view, it's easy to use to understand to reach a good number of followers and a lot of sellers they get customers through Instagram.
Got it! Yeah, I've heard it's probably the easiest to grow. The purpose of my question is to understand where indie hackers actually spend time the most when it comes to social media platforms. Appreciate the response!
Does Reddit count?
Since I started lurking around Indie/Entrepreneur subreddits a couple of years ago, it has been my go to resource and feedback gathering place.
Twitter is good too, but a lot of emphasis on the network before it starts paying off.
Oh yes, this is great insight! Thank you, @contact_brilliant. Can you share which subreddits you often visit?
We have a link in bio tool https://Bigger.Bio that creators use to cross promote all their social media content . The big ones being TikTok and Instagram. The clickrate on Instagram wins by a long shot.
This is a great tool, and great to know about Instagram having the top click rate. Doesn't surprise me. Thanks again @fabform!
I like the Facebook platform because it is one of the most popular social networks in the world. I appreciate its wide range of features that allow me to connect with friends and family, share photos and videos, and stay updated with the news feed. Additionally, Facebook offers the opportunity to join various interest groups, which helps me find like-minded individuals and engage in discussions on topics that interest me. I also value the convenience of using the platform and its availability on various devices, including computers, smartphones, and tablets. Overall, Facebook provides me with a convenient and interactive space for communication and interaction with my contacts)
Appreciate the very comprehensive response, Vladymyr! Very helpful. Facebook is the OG of all social media platforms. No doubt!
I can provide you with some general insights on social media platforms for indie makers:
Twitter: Twitter is a popular platform for indie makers and entrepreneurs due to its real-time nature and ability to connect with a wide audience. It offers a space for quick updates, networking, sharing resources, and engaging in conversations with like-minded individuals. Many indie makers use Twitter to share their progress, seek feedback, and build a community around their projects.
Instagram: Instagram is known for its visual nature, making it ideal for indie makers who have visually appealing products or services to showcase. It's particularly popular among creative industries such as design, fashion, art, and food. Indie makers often use Instagram to highlight their work, share behind-the-scenes content, and connect with potential customers.
LinkedIn: While LinkedIn is primarily a professional networking platform, it can also be valuable for indie makers, especially if their target audience includes professionals or B2B clients. LinkedIn provides a platform for sharing industry insights, networking with other professionals, and establishing credibility within a specific field or niche.
The preferred platform for indie makers may vary depending on their target audience, niche, and personal preferences. Some indie makers may find success using a combination of different platforms to reach their goals.
Regarding frequency of use, it varies from individual to individual. Some indie makers may actively use social media platforms daily, while others may have a more intermittent presence based on their available time and priorities.
Ultimately, it's essential to consider your specific target audience, content strategy, and goals when choosing a social media platform. Researching your target market, analyzing competitor presence, and experimenting with different platforms can help you determine the most effective platform for your indie maker journey.
