Thanks for pre-empting my question here @sanat86! I've been combing the internet for the best info on launch tactics as well. I want to reiterate one thing that @divby0 said below which is that you should build a pipeline of launches for your product so that you can launch several times over several months. I've talked to many founders recently that all experienced a strong compounding benefit to launching every 6-8 weeks for a few months.

Obviously, what you're launching needs to be high-quality and you need to engage with the community as well. Best of luck!

@erskingardner when you say pipeline of launches - Do you mean, same version or elevated versions of the product on each successive launch ?

      1. 2

I mean launches of new sets of features on the same overall product. If you look at a product like June (https://www.producthunt.com/products/june), they've done a few launches over time rolling out new major features to their product.

I interviewed over 5+ founders whose products ranked in top #3 of Product Hunt.

Here are some of the common tips they shared:

    1. Build a waitlist before launching:

Either through a lead magnet or by promising a pre-launch offer. This can really help get you support when you launch on product hunt.

    1. Don't stick to one channel:

Promote your launch on multiple communities. This includes twitter DM'ing your followers, talking about your product in indiehackers and sharing your process in product hunt & discord communities. The more the better.

    1. The Golden Hour:

The first hour of your launch is the most crucial hour. If you get more upvotes and crack the top 3 in first hour, then you will most likely retain your spot there.

    1. Be Active on Product Hunt Community:

All your product hunt followers will receive a notification when you launch your product on product hunt. So the more active you're in the product hunt communities, the better engagement you'll get for your launch.

    1. Optimize your product name, tagline & thumbnail:

Make sure to use copywriting frameworks like AIDA Or PAS to write your product tagline, description and first comment. Make sure it is optimized for clicks.

I got all these tips from our guests at The Big Bang Launch Newsletter - A newsletter where we interview the makers behind Top 3 Products on Product Hunt and reveal their launch strategies. You can check out the newsletter here:

    Hi Sanat,
This week I launched a Product named AudaOS on ProductHunt.
    Link: https://www.producthunt.com/products/audaos

I sum up some things about launching.

    1. on Monday or Tuesday. these two days is the start of a week to get more rates.

    2. You'd better find a "Hunter" to upvote ur product. Hunter's followers will receive the notification after they upvoted. And they are more trustworthy. You can see that they all have a Hunter in the upvote-list at the top of the PH board.

    3. Launch at the first second of the day. The board will update everyday. if u can't catch the launch time, your showing time will be less than others. That's not a good idea for u.

hope u can get some useful advices.

I am building an audience now with a view to luanch on PH at some point in time. We are using a large dataset we have plus FB Group to build out all the connections.

Did you try the crowdfunding campaign route ?
      Which platform do you recommend?
Any advice on campaign set up & promo for crowdfunding ?

I think there shouldn't be one single launch. There is this idea of periodically "launching"(a new version or features) - I think it's excellent since you can start validating your idea early instead of waiting for the big launch day and then seeing that your idea actually doesn't have enough market-fit. I even built validate.run, so I can validate ideas and launch to a few people at a time and refine each time.

    Hello Sanat!
Yes, we previously launched two products on Product Hunt.

Both of our products entered the top five. You can view our products from the link below.

    Designer.tips; https://www.producthunt.com/products/designer-tips#designer-tips

    Product Doctor; https://www.producthunt.com/products/product-doctor#product-doctor

I can give a few recommendations based on my experience.
    1-Coming Soon
In the Coming Soon section you can make a page for your product, and you will collect subscribers. You can also request support by informing the subscribers you have collected on the launch day.

    2-Twitter/Slack/Linkedin
You can also announce the launch day on other platforms and collect the e-mail addresses of those who are interested. It would be helpful to inform them on the launch day as well.

    3-Audit
You will get a lot of good or bad feedback at launch. The way to prevent bad reviews is to test up front. If you have entered the link above, you have met our product, Product Doctor, which we launched in the product hunt.
I recommend doing a free self check up to improve your product.

    4-Be Online
The first hours on launch day are important. I recommend launching your product at 07:00 UTC. And try to get organic upvotes and comments within the first two hours.

    5-After Launch
Reach users interested in your product after launch!

    Congrats on the launch.

      Hey Eylul,
Thanks a lot, that's really helpful.
      https://www.producthunt.com/products/designer-tips#designer-tips looks really neat.

Did you create a separate Slack community before your launch ?

      1. 1

Frankly, we didn't have much time for that.
But, we have curated slack channels with design content for designer.tips. And we actively shared on all of these channels.

        1. 1

Got it. If I may ask, typically how much time did you/your team spent on launch prep ? Will be very helpful to know.

          1. 1

As Micro Creation, we design Micro products. The time we spend on pre-launch it changes from product to product.

For example designer.tips we prepared for two weeks.
ProductDoctor.co was a more comprehensive project, we prepared longer.

However, our product ( Prompt.Cafe ) that we launched yesterday is a more micro product. And we didn't make long preparations for the launch. We wanted to try a different method. And as a result we didn't get the rank we wanted in PH, but we made more sales than our other products.

So it's a completely different process that change from product to product :)
