What's your thoughts of lifetime deals?

Hey all, Recently I noticed people having good results with giving lifetime deals as a founder.

But as a user, I had a very bad experience with one landing page startup. I took the lifetime deal during its early days thinking I can use it as long as it exists, But one the platform got stable in 6 months.

They launched a V2 and the V1 for which I signed up was shutdown. I was offered a few free months on V2 but the lifetime thing was gone.

Have you purchased a lifetime plan and what happens if they abandon the project or rename it V2?
How long can be considered as a lifetime in today's ever-changing world, is 2 years worth calling it lifetime?

What's your thought as a founder giving lifetime deal and as a user buying a lifetime deal.

Very interested to know if the product is a SaaS type that needs server maintenance.

Generally founders give lifetime deal at the initial stage of their SaaS tools and we as SaaS platform who connects B2B community also be careful to know the age of SaaS tools in the market, how long the founders have put their passion and time to work on it and their funding (reason for LTD)
Some tools exit the market after launching (in short period) and Some SaaS platform never care to make an analysis but SaaS Mantra is one such platform who make a careful analysis for its audience (both the ways - person who purchase the tool and also person who run LTD of their tool in our platform)
