When founder dating, make sure you know what makes you tick

So many failures start before the founding team has even formed. Why? Founders don't know what makes them tick, what they're good at, what they're not great at & where they have work to do.

I was 3 years into a startup journey that was a grind. Walked into most of the classic startup pitfalls along the way. Co-founders leaving, months of distraction & drift, moments of extreme highs & the opposite to. One day it hit me, I didn't want to be doing this anymore and I started asking myself how I got here.

Within a month, the startup folded, money returned to investors in part through cash and in part through sweat labour. Ugggg. It was the right thing to do and everyone walked away tired but ok.

The thing is, all of this could have been avoided if I'd been clear going in what I was good at; what made me tick. I could have communicated this clearly to my would-be co-founders, we could have built a new picture for what performance looked like for our team and we could have established a clear reference point for us to measure against & checkin on every month. If we'd done this, we probably would have never started in the first place.
