When Online Replies Started to Feel Weightless, How Driftya Started

Much of online interaction today feels strangely weightless. Someone can spend time writing something thoughtful, but the responses often end up being quick reactions or short comments buried in long threads. Over time I started wondering what communication would feel like if messages were meant for one person instead of an audience.

That idea became the starting point for a small project named Driftya.

Instead of typical social media feature, such as likes, messages drift from one person to another like bottles in the sea. A note arrives to a single person, they can reply, and the exchange ends there. Each reply could feel more meaningful because there is a limited set of replies.

The goal isn’t scale or virality. It’s to see whether smaller, contained interactions feel different.
