When should I publish the website?

Hello IndieHackers,
I have a question related to launching of my company website. My product is mainly mobile app based. The website will just give information about the company, product and contact information. The apps are still in development phase and would be ready by next month. Does it make sense to launch website when I have the apps published as well. The reason for confusion being, the website will be giving information about the product which yet not exist on app stores. Please provide your insights.

Thanks

I would say publish the site. It acts as marketing for you app, which will generate interest on the app. You can even get people to join a newsletter that will keep them up to date with the progress of the app.

Thanks for the advice. I really liked the idea about the newsletter.

Why did you make a website before finishing the product?

Sorry but that's exactly my question was about the timing of website launch. In terms of development effort, I am using Wix for my website and being a developer myself I can finish that thing off in a couple of days. On the other hand, for the mobile apps the time frame is bit longer than a couple of days. So before I even spent a couple of days, I thought to throw the question on IH and see what are people opinions about the website launch time.

Also, my thought was that the website will allow my potential client to get a deeper look at what the product is going to serve. A lot of times when I am trying to contact the clients either through email or making a cold call, they would just ask for if you have any website where we can look at it later.

I say don't waste time on anything that is not talking to users or building your product when you are pre-launch (and to some extent post launch).

If you need a website to talk to your customers, sure, build the website. But I would think hard on the exact value-add that you are getting from spending some time on building a website that could have gone into building your app.

          Make sense.

          Thank you :)

You should definitely publish the site. Google will take a couple of months to index it, meanwhile the only visitors you will get will be spam bots and hackers.

You should publish the website and try to offer something to users that organically find your website. Have a call to action so users can leave their information, that way you can let them know when you'r mobile based app launches.

So you mean something like a newsletter right?

A newsletter is good. Or a blog to keep people interested.
