Hi there - I have an idea in the edtech space (B2C) and tried to validate it via a landing page test (I had about 50 signups in a week by posting the LP link on relevant Facebook groups). When I tried to email those who had signed up for interviews, the response was a bit lacklustre (some of them are teachers, so the not the best guys to sit down with). But I've had a few conversations.
If I go ahead with this idea and build an MVP, I would need to create some content. Given the time that that would take, I was wondering how certain I should be before heading down that path?
I'd say that you should try and understand your success metric of sign ups beforehand and once you reach it start there.
Once you reach your target, try creating a teaser on what will be covered, and if there is good response, continue working on the rest. Perhaps if you're doing a full course, you could release a cluster of lessons at a time, rather than the full course. If you get people watching to the end of what is currently available, you can keep them informed on when the rest will drop.
It would save you time in developing, and keep them engaged in the content you provide.
Success metric as in figuring out a minimum number of signups?
Yes as it seems like that’s what you’re using now to determine if your course is viable. If there is another metric that you’d want to use, like paid signups, you’d want to centre around that. Don’t move forward until you’ve hit your predefined success criteria.
