I definitely think taking inspiration from others on marketing sites is a great easy one.
I once booked a call with 3 other competitors to see how their sales flow worked. This was right at the beginning and was a bit morally imperfect but very illuminating.
Yes, the moral side of it is questionable. Nevertheless, it's quite important to understand your competitors' processes as much as you can.

Every day that I can. Even though comparing only to yourself is key, you do need to understand what those that have more users than you or "take" users from you are doing better. And the moral boundaries do not exist here, it's just business IMO, so if I can create an account and try to break the system, I see no issues with that.
I prefer not to look at competitors too much, as I find it makes me feel like I should gravitate towards what they're doing, and I think it's more important for my product to be its own thing. That's not to say I don't pay any attention to them, I just try to do it a little at a time to have a general sense of what they're up to.

These past few days. Working on redesigning my website and I search for competitors to take a look at their websites.
Cool. We're also in the process of redesigning and we screenshotted 3-4 websites that inspired us, pasted them in Miro and analyzed them. We made pros & cons list to see which elements we should consider and which aspects should we improve.

I find we spend too much time thinking about our competitors. In my experience building businesses, the competitors you think you have at an early stage aren't the ones who actually end up as the ones you compete against at scale.
Yeah, it's either too much time wasted on competitors or too little. And that sounds like a positioning problem, once you are properly positioned it's easier to spot the right competitors.
I think everyone should do it. Its more like learning from others and improving your product.
