Where are the places you find your freelance work?

I have heard this question more than once in the last week or so and the varying answers are really interesting and insightful.

For me when I was freelancing a lot my work came from Upwork and Fiverr but then over time become more organic as my old clients were coming to me or recommending others to me.

Nothing is better than when jobs come to you. I was thinking of building a tool that just uses machine learning to match you with contracts. Something like a ripplematch.com but for freelancers.

With that rant over, answer away :)

That sounds like a cool idea to me, it only takes a few good clients to take up most of your time but finding those first couple of clients can be challenging.

Yeah exactly! The idea is this way they keep coming to you. I was thinking doing it through a daily or couple days a week newsletter

Finding a good freelancer is also a huge problem for companies so I'm sure they will be willing to pay to post jobs once you built up the newsletter base.

It is a nice idea, but doesn't upwork already do that? When you search for jobs there is a 'recommend' and a 'my feed' that suggests jobs based on your skill profile.

Yeah, I am thinking something more personalized and easy to access day to day (like a newsletter) without all the beef and fees Upwork has. Also, for me at least, 1 out of every 100 jobs on the recommendation feeds end up actually being for me.

Something along the lines of a daily newsletter that connects projects with freelancers and businesses (that need the projects done) with freelancers. This way the jobs are coming to you, you are not looking for them.

Is that something you would use? I feel like all these freelancing platforms with all these things you have to fill out and constantly update just get tedious and too time-consuming so why not simplify it (maybe by linking LinkedIn profile), bring the needed work to you or something.

Yeah, that is true, i have the same issue on the recommendation feed.
I like the idea, it would be simple to start, so i would give it a go.
