Where are you finding growth marketers?

Hi all! Does anyone have tips for the best places to post job ads for growth marketers? I have a mentee looking to make his first marketing hire. Thanks! 🙏

We hired someone from Fiver to do a very small content marketing task. He did the task but basically said "you shouldn't be doing this but rather this instead" and then pitched us a much more comprehensive plan. And we've been working with him ever since.

I see them. Most are overpromising and underdelivering. Best to hire a channel manager specific to the channel that has proven results for you. And when you hire this channel manager, check references on past success.

I would start by doing manual outreach to high-potential candidates. The best hires are often the ones that were not looking for a job.

Apart from that I personally have the best experiences with a (boosted) job listing on Linkedin. You can set a daily promotion budget of €5-10, which will already get you quite some additional exposure.

There are many other - more niche - platforms out there, but unless you're specifically looking for digital nomads, for example, Linkedin typically outperforms them in terms of ROI of finding decent candidates.

Most countries also have a local database of unemployed people that you can access after registering. Sometimes you get lucky and there are some very good people that got laid off recently.

Great founders and great growth marketers are often one and the same. So in order to find these growth marketers/ founders you may choose to:

    1. Monitor the alumni list of incubators such as Y Combinator and Techstars to see which companies have never been successful. Then reach out to their first time founders.

    2. Check Product Hunt and Indie Hackers for older projects that have shown good marketing skills but haven't succeeded. That will help you to find out growth marketers.

I'm not sure if looking for people that were not able to launch their own product is the best strategy to find talent? It's not because they tried it and failed, they will necessarily succeed the next time.
